Arrow A Not-So-Cool Way to Score 99 in CK

Hey everyone,

Im a recent graduate from Pakistan. Being benefited from these forums i guess its time to help others. And also i have nothing else to do. Just applying for the match and watching Chinese Martial art series and bla bla ... Lol

Again like my Step 1 Guide. I would keep this Brief and Concise.

My Exam:

Score: 259/99
Prep Time: 2 Months
Daily Study Time: 4-5 Hours
Time of graduation: Dec,2010

Study Plan:

I will keep it a step-wise approach to simplify :

1) First read of Kaplan Lecture Notes (Subject-wise)
2) First read of Kaplan Qbank (Subject-wise)

****I did the Qbank soon after reading through each lecture note*****

3) First read of MTB-CK
4) First read of Uworld Qbank (Subject-wise)

5) 2nd read of MTB-CK

******Time for NBME******* (I was at 1.5 Months at this time)

6) 2nd read of Kaplan Lecture Notes ( I only did a very very quick review of around 1 day per subject )

7) 2nd read of Uworld Qbank ( Again it was a very quick review of the wrong and marked ones )

******Time for another NBME if you feel like*****

8) 3rd read of MTB-CK

9) Time to take the Freaking Exam NAO !!!

Wow... Wow ... wait ! ! What happened to 2nd read of Kaplan Qbank ? No. i didn't do it. Not worth a 2nd read for me, First is good enough. I found Uworld a MUCH better Qbank.

Just to clarify. NO, I did not do any Videos.

Now why did i call it "Not-So-Cool" way to get a 99 ?

Because i spent only 2 months for its prep as a result i had to cut short my above mentioned step 6 & 7 into a quick review. So Don't do that unless you are in a hurry like me

So try to avoid my Reckless approach rather use the above-mentioned steps with appropriate time and you would do even better !!

Good Luck !!

Well, As you see I did only MTB-CK and that worked wonderful for me. You can still give First Aid a read but i didn't as most people think that if you have done First Aid for Step 1 there is not much you would get from First Aid for CK and then I did the whole Lecture Notes of kaplan so ... Whats the point repeating same thing over different books ?

Stay focused. Do what needs to be done.

that's really great...thnx a lot for a encouraging post! so what's ur idea..if a person is short in time..is it enough to go through MTB-CK2 and then only UWORLD to hit the exam? if not then what should i add in it? actually i've to give my exam within 3 months. hope u would like to guide, thnx in advance and i'm sursrised that whether 4-5 hrs r enough a day to reach the goal ?

If you have got 3 Months Add Kaplan Lecture Notes, they are very useful. You must have atleast 1 and preferably 2 reads of it. Don't go for the average daily time, it varies for everyone. Judge yourself by the content you study daily not the duration.

Although giving Step 1 first helps but still you can Ace it with a little effort. Your schedule sounds. Don't worry, even i didn't remember anything after the first read. It appears so but it just gets in some corner of your mind and comes up on next read or when required.

KLN 2008-2009 are fine too i used them for step 1. and 09-10 version for CK. Well MTB-CK worked for me while FA works for other.

I did both Kaplan Qbank and UWorld. Although one can prefer Uworld if you have restricted time BUT if you have got time i will recommend doing Kaplan Qbank for 1 Month as is your plan as in CK Exam a good number of Qs resembled the pattern as in Kaplan Qbank.

I have just my Experience to back up my Support for MTB-CK which i believe had more contribution to my 259 than KLN.

Default Lecture notes

What a great post, congratulations for the high score! I'm an old IMG and I'm done with step 1, and now getting ready for Step 2 CK. I liked your study plan a lot, although it will take me longer than 2 m. I have a question, are KLN edition 2008-2009 the latest edition? I'm about to buy the books but I'm not sure. Do you have any suggestions about the videos, IM or pediatrics?. Please advise. God bless.

Thanks. Firstly Take your time to prepare KLN Edition usually come out every year but as i see it doesn't make any difference which edition you used. I actually used 2007-08 edition for my step 1 and 2009 for step 2 ck.

As for videos i havn't seen any. If you feel like being an old IMG took you away from some subject you can view it or may be start without videos See how you are doing to Qbank If not good enough then go with videos. Its totally up to you.

First of all CONGRATS on the great score mA.

Secondly lemme get this straight. so you did all of KLN series+Kaplan Qbank, MTB+ Uworld in 1.5 months, studying 4-5 hours/day? mA Thats some speed you had... haha but could you please gimme the schedule you followed...like how many chaps/topics did u cover in a day+questions etc.... if you don't mind please!

I have bout 3 months but I'm currently doing rotations as well and I haven't started studying as yet. Just got my MTB and still waiting on the KLN series.

should I do 1 read of MTB before I do any questions or start Uworld simultaneously?

Thanks in advance

Thanks.Yea i guess I did that. I usually follow the No. of Pages/ Day.
Although i don't remember what exact numbers i followed but i think they were as follows:

KLN: 50-60 Pages / Day
MTB: 60-80 / Day (First Read), 80-100 (2nd) and 100-120 (3rd)
MCQs: 4-5 Blocks per day.

Normally i would complete a particular subject KLN then go through its Qbank. When all subjects were done, i did MTB which cal also do subjectwise after doing the KLN for each subject. So don't start MTB and Uworld simultaneously, Its more beneficial if you go through the reading material first before attempting the Qs.

Cool. IA you will do great.
Yea thats pretty much the sequence which i have easily enumerated in my first post.
With rotation? Umm I dunno i may not take that risk. It wont be easy.
