It is better to get something really recent, as you might know, they try to add new ideas about the exam every time.

The latest edition is the Seventh Edition, published in 2009

There will be Eighth edition, it will be published in April 2012

Even I had a same question before .
I m doing uworld n have read mtb-ck once . I have 7th edition of 1st aid, now I don't want to buy it as i know i won't have time to go through the entire 1st aid book, I just want to see few things there, that r deficient in mtb-ck, so I think that will be covered even by the old ones(7th), as the concept n initial n accurate tests won't change drastically in few yrs span , hopefully in a new edition n the latest things that r missing in mtb-ck ,will be mostly covered by uworld.
so I m planing to stick to the old one, that too, if my time permits.
