Default STEP 2 CK Experience: 260

Hi all.. Just recieved my Step 2 CK results on Feb. 25 , my score is 260. First of all I want to thank Almighty for helping me get through tough times.
I have been silent reader of these forums for a while and now since I have got my results I will like to contribute my 2 cents. As experiences of others have inspired and guided me, I just hope my experience may be of help to somebody.
I am an old IMG graduated in 2009 and after that I did residency in my home country and now I am preparing for residency in USA.

Material Used:
  • MTB 2(Complete)
  • MTB 3 (whole except Int. Medicine)
  • Uworld twice (First time average 78%)
  • Conrad Fischer comprehensive cases
  • NBME clinical mastery series assessment exams (Did a few days before exam when I came to know about it through forums. But these are really helpful and one should try to do at least 15 days before exam so that you can get time to go through these questions once again as they closely resemble the questions on real exam)
Prep. Time: 3.5 months (after taking Step 1 in Oct. 2014)

Assessment Scores:

NBME 4(offline) - 246 (15 days before exam)

NBME 7 (ONLINE) - 260 ( 5 days before exam)

UWSA - 259 ( 3 days before exam)

FRED 150 - around 93% ( 1 day before exam )

Real deal : 260

I would just say although the exam is more difficult than uworld, NBMEs ; still it is doable. Stay calm and keep on working hard. Finally I would like to thank my husband and my family for the support they have provided me to get through.

If you have any questions I 'll be happy to help.

Default study plan

congratulations for great score and thank you for sharing you experience.
1- can you tell more about your study plan ? or what do you recommend for covering these materials during 3 months?
2- what do you think of Conrad Fischer comprehensive cases? is it a must or do you recommend it?
3- about those mastery series, would you please explain how many qs are they? and did you do all of them?
thank you

Well... To begin with , I had only 3.5 months for prep. as I want to apply for Match this year. So I didn't go through Kaplan notes or videos. First of all, I gave a thorough reading to MTB2 and 3.
Then I made notes from uworld when I did it for the first time. I never cared about the percentage in uworld as I used it as a study tool not assessment tool. At the end I revised those notes 2 times in the last week of my prep.
I think MTB and Uworld are more than sufficient to get a good score. At no point in the exam I felt that I should have referred to some other source.

2)Regarding Conrad Fischer comprehensive cases, I listened to them only passively when I was bored reading text and while working in the kitchen...So its not a must if you have mastered the MTBs.

3) These mastery series are available at NBME site and in total there are 12 assessment exams in 6 subjects and with 50 questions each. I did all except neurology becoz I don't think there are much neurology questions exam, you can easily do away with uworld. U must do psychiatry and surgery if you are an IMG.

Good luck.

I got just 1 drug ad in the whole exam with a set of 3questions and no abstracts at all. But ads are more difficult than uworld.

Congrats on the awesome score

Did having fresh knowledge from Step 1 help a lot with Step 2? If someone is rusty with Step 1 material, would you recommend reading over First Aid for Step 1 again?

Thanks ducktales...
Its good to have step 1 knowledge only for knowing characteristics of bacteria and viruses becoz it helps you to get the right answer if u cannot get the other clues in question; Biostats formulas and drug side effects. If you think that you are rusty with step 1 material, just go through few tables in First Aid and that would be all you need.
Hope that helps.. Good luck

If u can master uworld I think there is no need to do Kaplan qbank as it is low yield...

I'm wondering too with this , how without Kaplan LN we can achieve so high scores?
Or you just have dedicated more time for MTB 2ck and UW. Is this combination enogh for 260?

Default Thanks guys..

I think what is most important is your clarity of concepts , becoz all of us know that real exam questions are always different from questions we have done in various qbanks.
I personally go for second reference only when I am sure that I have completely mastered the one I am reading.
I did uworld twice , complete , reading each and every explanation thoroughly not just the wrong ones.

Do you mean you read each and every explanation of uworld twice?

thanks I see. You also practically studied completely both MTB books.
where did you annotate UWorld? Did you use a separate notebook?

Congrats on your fantabulous results Navneet.. I started with my preparations 2 weeks back. I have couple of doubts.

1. Do u suggest doing First Aid along with MTB? Is it required at all?

2. Also in uworld, did u write the notes/imp points in MTB-2 itself or did u make a separate notebook for it?

1. I didn't use FA
2. I made a separate noteboook for tables and charts along with notes from uworld.
