Question Chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia

Dear everyone

How to differentiate between a pt. with previous chronic renal disease, and a newly developed superimposed preeclampsia ?

How to know whether the elevated uric acid, proteinuria, and decreased creatinine clearance are due to chronic HTN with superimposed preeclampsia or due to chronic renal disease.

Your best bet would be the history. I dont think there are any labs to differentiate the two unless you have previous labs to compare.
