I just got my result, 3 gidit is 236 but two digits is 82!!!! what is that supposed to mean??? shouldn't 236 be 99??? I am really not sure whether I should be happy or not, my 3 digits sound good but 2 digit is totally messed up!!!

That's really strange  i even checked the usmle website for any recent

updates in the CK scoring system , but only chnage was in the content

and in the ( design of the website )

of course accord to any kind measurement u both should get 99

i think u should ask the ECFMG if there is any kind of change in the

scoring system and see what they will say ?

anyway u both still should be happy cuz now the ERAS takes only 3 digit

number and no more 2 digit number .

Additional changes to USMLE procedures for reporting scores
Posted: October 03, 2011
As was reported previously, the USMLE program has begun the process of eliminating the reporting of results on the 2-digit score scale to parties other than the examinee and any state licensing authority to which the examinee sends results.
Because USMLE will continue to report the 2-digit score to examinees and to state licensing authorities, the program will be making changes in scoring procedures to minimize the impact of future shifts in the relationship between 2-digit and 3-digit scores that result from USMLE's periodic review of standards. The new scoring procedures will be implemented with the reporting of results for examinees who take a Step 1, Step 2 CK, or Step 3 examination on or after October 1, 2011.
The change in scoring procedures will introduce a more stable relationship between score scales in the future. Those receiving 2-digit score results under the new system will note that, in most instances, the 2-digit score associated with a specific 3-digit score will be substantially lower than it was prior to this change.
The change in scoring procedures described above does not correct the challenges associated with using the 2-digit score scale for decisions other than those that use a score of 75 or higher to identify examinees who have passed the examination. It is highly recommended that the 3-digit score scale be used for comparisons among examinees, especially for examinees who have tested at different points in time.

its ok u got a very good score , they changed the scoring system

just remember that 3 digits number now is all that matters , when they

previously said that they will stop using 2 digit number for ERAS

applications , they were preparing for this change .

i guess many ppl still were attached somehow ( maybe psychologically )

to the 2 digit number ( every body wants the 99 :) )

now ECFMG made it completely useless cuz some one who gave the exam

b4 1st of oct with someone with the same score would have defenitily

gotten 99 but now that u got 85 , the only way to truely compare is the 3

digit . so the program directors are forced now to use the 3 digits ,

i think this month there will be alot of ppl complaining of the same issue ,

may be u guys were the first to get the first shock , so u feel its a little

wiered ( the 3 of u should have gotten 99 ) accord to the previous

schedule posted on the usmle site , now the 3 of u are on a different

competitive scales .

Thanks. It's just so weird, like you said.., everybody is used to the 99... Anyway, I'm slowly getting it and hey.... I GOT 254!!! I should be jumping up and down, right?!:))

Thanks everyone! well I have accepted it now. Our main aim is to secure a residency and for that, the two digit is no longer reported, so I might not be able to say I am a double 99er, but hey, atleast with 236, I won't be any less than the previous 99ers during the residency interviews. :D

And best of luck to all of you future exams takers, just be ready to accept the fact that very few of us, if any, are going to be 99ers from now on.
