Embarrassed Tried not to but now I'M FREAKING OUT !!!! help.

I've been preparing for the exam for a really long time now, about 10 months, I've read Kaplan CK Notes once, FA once , done offline UW 2007 once, online UW with avg 68 %, took extensive notes & read them once, done some questions from Kaplan Qbook & FA Q&A, found them "relatively" easy so I stopped, now I'm reading Kaplan again for the second time & the notes I took from UW, 270 pages by the way, for the second time.

My exam is on Nov 15th, 10 days from now & I'm freaking out literally, I feel like I forgot everything, tried to do the free 150 Qs before doing UWSA & NBME 4, but while I'm in the first block I panicked & took a long time reading the questions for fear of getting them wrong so I stopped while in the middle of the first block & couldn't go through with it.

I'm too afraid to take NBME or UWSA now, cause if I screw up in those I'll be devastated cause I feel like I've done my best & sometimes I feel like I could've done better , seriously guys I'm going crazy I've been waiting for this day since my first day in med school, it's been my dream to score big in the USMLE probably that's why I'm dreading it,

ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED,

thank you.

allow me to say you are doing great till now.. you have studied good materials,
took good notes, and your average on UW is quite decent..
it is natural to be feeling panic and feel like you have forgotten everything you've studied so far especially that your exam is only after 10 days..
i am my self feeling anxious and m having panic attacks and i still got like 3-4 month for my exam lol..
don't worry dude you have done a very good job so far.. and what you need to do now is to take a day off, relax, do things you like and calm your self then do your UWSA and NBME and i'm sure your scores will be sky high so don't worry you've been studying for 10 months now, and you'll get a very good results i can see that.. and bear mind that people who are anxious and worried before their exams it means they have studied well.. so just believe in your self and in the great job you did and you can make it

Best of Luck man.. m sure i'll be hearing good news from you

You shouldn't be reviewing notes and books at this time. You should be doing questions and questions and questions until the day of the exam.

I suggest you postpone your exam for a month or so and subscribe to Kaplan CK Qbank, this will solidify your knowledge and get you ready.

Thanks a lot Sam , I know I should relax & I've been reminding my self from the get go not to panic towards the end cause I knew I would, but it turned out that it's easier said than do , anyway what's gonna happen is gonna happen & I'm pretty damn sure I'm not gonna delay my exam any longer for one single reason , that I surely can't take anymore stress .
Good luck bro.

It's a really great advice but I really can't afford to do that , I'm really fed up with it , no matter what I do I know I'll feel inadequate , I know I shouldn't but fear from the test will make you feel that way for sure , but one question though ; do you really think I should not re-review my notes & books ? cause I was kind of determined to re-read everything in the next 10 days & thought that will refresh everything in my head .
appreciate your reply , good luck.

I know I said 10 months was my preparation time but actually I started studying back in September 1st 2010 , so it's 14 months but I didn't count what I thought was a lost time , so you can understand why I can't wait any more ; & the reason I took so long is that I haven't taken step 1 first so I had spent a long time searching the internet & my school books to try to understand some concepts about the pathophysiology & what have you that were not explained in step 2 books , but on the bright side _ or at least what I think is a bright side _ towards the end of UW I was getting from 70 to 79 in the last 15 blocks & the reason why my overall score is relatively low is I really screwed up in the first few blocks getting 50s & 60s .
one more thing , I really wanna thank everybody who took the time trying to help , thank you guys , this forums has been a great help to me.

eventhough i haven't taken any of the step's exams yet but for sure i ain't gonna read any material 10 days before my exam.
i agree with chikawawa that all you have to do right now is to solve and solve as much questions as you can. and you still have the UWSA and the NBME go for them now and what ever other questions you can solve.. you can revise your external notes if you want but don't just revise everything it will only make you more anxious cause you won't be able to re-read the whole books.

now I'm torn ,I've got two scenarios in mind now.

1- re-read as much as I can from Kaplan + uw note + form 4 NBME + UWSA + free 150 usmle Qs

OR

2-Solve kaplan Qbook + FA Q&A + FORM 4 + FORM 2 + UWSA + FREE 150 USMLE.ORG Qs + my UW notes.

which scenario do you guys think is better .

i have given my step 1.n as far as i knw all ur symptoms r required 10 days b4 the exam.thts how u can stay focussed the last 10 days.i did a UWSA 10 days b4 my step 1 scored a 800/265 n relaxed fully.hardly read a bit.so its better u utilise this by not going bck to KLN.the 2nd option u put up is gud.n for gods sake dont postpone ur exam.theres nothing u can do.finally u get fed up n spoil the whole thing incase u postpone.my idea is to giv a nbme or uwsa nw so that u actually know wer u stand.i am sure the score will b gud as u scoring so gud in ur last few uw blocks.gud luck.

Don't panic.

I recommend you to avoid reading anything new. Just do questions. At this moment it doesn't matter if you did these questions before. Now it is time for reinforce your knowledge and a quick review of the questions is the best way to do it. I also recommend you to do USWA and review the questions and answers from there.
Probably you will get a good score and you will feel more confident about the exam. Use these last 10 days for preparing your body for the exam. Wake up early and do the questions at the same hours just as if you were taking the exam.
The last day, relax, rent a movie, watch it, and try to get enough sleep.... yeah, I know sometimes it could be difficult. Don't use any sleeping pill.

Goodspeed

What's really weird is that everybody so far is recommending not to read the books again which was the least expected advice to me , but now when I think about it , it's actually kinda stupid trying to read the books that it took me 10 months to finish in 10 days .

ya even I agree with all of them, u should give at least 1 test as soon as possible so that u can see ur relative strength n weakness though by this time u might have got some idea from ur uworld, next reenforce the weak areas with ur uworld notes n the related segment in kaplan book, the idea is not to study the whole book ,again in 2- 3 days give 1 more test to see ur improvementas u don't have much time to review.
don't worry too much as it may screw up all the hard work u have done, so stay focus, I know it's easy to say n difficult to follow but at least we can try, I also get really anxious at exm time, ruining my overall performance, so I can understand what u may be going through but do ur best, last 10 days

Do not take your uwsa or nbme too hard on yourself, because the exam was entirely different and was way harder than uworld. trust me i took my exam on 27th october. just do your best, because on exam day your never gona see similar questions anywhere. but am sure you will be able to exclude the wrong answers and will have 2 in hand to differentiate. just do your best and go for it. It is a roller coaster ride. good luck!

hey Younissmed.. i would advise thtat the last few days you simply revise yr text and not questions.. as with questions you will be able to revise limited stuff but if you flip through all your highlighted notes and HY stuff you will be able to cover more subject, precisely what you want to do before your exam. I would strongly advise against doing questions the last few days.

GL on the text
