Smile Maksemous exam experience 260/86

To every body here in this forum thank you for your support, co-operation and help. I would like to share some points with you
I did these in the following sequence
I studied for 6 months (i work full time as cardiology resident with heavy duties)
1- Kaplan video (the new available edition) please use the old videos for pediatrics and psychiatry first.
2- USMLE World qbank 84 % correct and 97% percentile for 1 time only
3- Some chapters of master the boards step 2 CK
3- USMLE World self assessment 800 268
4- NBME 4 640 263
5- 1st aid q&a some blocks
5- The real exam I felt very difficult and challenging. 260 86

Now here are some advises :
1- Don't underestimate yourself and your faith
2- nothing is a good representative for nowadays exams but the actual representative is what you have gathered during your study
3- Do more questions as you can from multiple sources. Don't depend on 1 source only
4- hearing kaplan is more important than reading the notes (just make a concept of the videos )
5- usmle world is very good not in the form of questions but rather in pushing you to think and to make a job for the given knowledge it is a good training
6- every time I do an assessment I feel I will fail but I find this unreal
7- the actual exam you may feel very tough but remember you are compared to others on the scale and remember that all of us nearly use the same sources
8- for drug ad and the new q format i left them to the end don't waste your time in only 1-2-3 questions whatever, you finish all the block then you go to them as they need more time.

Anytime I am available for all of you my friends feel free to discuss with me if you want please.

I hope success to all of you

first of all a hearty congratulations. i had a a few doubts

1). as u mentioned in 4th point, do u mean to say , we can skip the notes, if we do the videos more thoroughly.. or are the notes less important.?. i find seeing videos mch mor interesting then reading notes..i get lost into the notes.
2). can u tell me where, did u study these drug ad ques nd new ques format from?? r they in the new updated UW, or do we need extra source for that?

thanks

this is my first step
2 hours daily for 4.5 months (kaplan) then 10 hours per day the last 1.5 m (usmle world and other questions)
I couldn't do more than 64 q uw q bank per day (1.5 block/day untimed ) because i read the answer carefully and write down the important points so that i will review only from my notes in the last 2 days
last week i changed to tutor untimed mode to refresh my self
mtb 3 is very good and more detailed but i have the electronic version so i couldn't use it. mtb 2 is good it may be good for review before exam
what is more important do more and more questions from many sources i found this the most helpful even more than kaplan videos.

i found videos more useful u need only to read the notes once (my friend got 259 and advised me not even to read it but i couldn't do that ) my advice is to build your own concept from multiple sources first from videos then more and more questions write down what u really ignore and what u don't know in some papers it is valuable
the new q are presented in uw q bank u can know the format from it and also n usmle practice material but please mark them on the exam and go to them after other q in the block are done they may be easy or difficult but every time they take more time

First of all congrats on such a wonderful score.
I hope u do well in your other steps too.

MY question is:
What multiple sources do you recommend for the MCQs?
UW, Kaplan Qbank, 1st Aid Q & A.
Anything else that you went through?

Thanks for sharing your experience..it is very motivating.

Congratulations on your score.
Can you please clarify about your use of Lange questions? Do you mean there are not that good or you didn't use them too well? thank you.

i see that the old version of ped and psych is better and information are well explained while 2010 version for both sounds as a revision only not full and slow explanation
