Unhappy Am Shattered - Failed step 2 ck

I got my results today and it was shocking to know i failed... i got a 70 and i just cannot believe it. I really do not know what to do now... may be i did a blunder by taking step 2 ck first. i also missed 6 questions overall, due to lack of time.
should i give up on my dreams? quit it or retake the test? Am being so helpless now, just do not know what to do...can i ever get into residency with a fail in step 2 ck?
should i join kaplan to improve next time? is it worth it to travel this road again? please help me guys, i am so lost now...very depressed.
can someone help me out

Don't be depressed i read in mtb 2 that u have to prove that u r good in the 2nd attempt and to prove that the first exam wasn't a good assessment for you

hi there, if u dont mind me asking, what was ur 3 digit score that landed u a 70? perhaps the requirement for a pass now has increased a lot.

i almost gave up when i barely passed my step 1 exam because i expected to do much better in the real exam. but i had many ppl emailing me and pm-ing me, all saying that i should go on with my dreams n continue on the step 2ck journey. there are ppl out there who have failed the step 1 4 times, and then took step 2ck twice and some barely passed step 2ck, and they all have landed residency positions. remember that this forum has hundreds of readers and followers every month, and yet only a few (the good scores) will post their results up. it took u courage to accept ur score and seek help. deep down inside u do not wanna claim defeat, which is why u are here asking for help. GOOD ON YOU!! dont give up. keep trying.

are u a student or working? if ure a student u mite wanna try step 1 but if i were u, after spending so much of time studying for step 2, i mite push myself a little harder and do over my mistakes n take step 2ck first again.

take a week off, wipe ur tears, and get back to the books. u can do it!!!

Try again.* Fail again.* Fail better.* ~Samuel Beckett
In my opinion this failure doesnt mean a thing unless you stop trying...
I also think that taking step 2 before step 1 didnt contribute to failing the exam that much but we wont be able to tell, only you can..do you feel weak in thr basic area or did you just underestimated step 2 and didn't give it it's rights..can i know what method did you use for studying the step 2(books, qbanks, amount of time..etc) ?

Hey, Thank you so much for the Pat on my back...My three digit score was 165/70. My exam was very vague, took it in the month of October. I hope i can still continue on this journey to get into residency, even low competetive programs will do for me and my options are open as long as i can get into residency.
I took the ck because i was working in a hospital and thought i was fresh with clinical knowledge. I took 7 months to prepare and did not expect such difficulty on the exam and also missed 6 questions due to lack of time as well as logical thinking for drug abstract and few other questions.

Some of those who are already in the residency are advising me now to get into either a research/observership/MPH program and get good LOR'S so as to make up for the BIG RED FLAG which i have now.

Some of my other friends are asking me to take the GRE/TOEFL to get into MPH now just as a back up plan for the future and take a break for few months and return back to step 2 ck.

It is a hard road ahead for me hope i can get back soon to fight back..

Thank you so much...!!

ive heard ppl who attend the center test preps score usually really well. in the high 90s. if u can afford tht why not. if i had the time and money i would've definitely opted tht. in just 6 mths u r ready for the test.

but if u feel u can study alone again then u can try tht too. a lot of ppl i know who got high 90s did not take test center preps or online lectures. they just used whatever material they cud download for free from online and studied. the only things they purchased was qbanks and NBMEs.

good luck.
