Arrow 253/85 - CK Exam Experience and Preparation

Firstly my thanks to all the great people on the forum, this is one of the best and most helpful forums for USMLE and i have been a ardent follower for the last 8-9 months.

Today I got my score report back for step 2 CK, and got 253/85 which is same as my step 1 score I thought what the hell am I checking wrong result! lol..

anyway this is how I prepared and I hope that it helps everyone.

Prep time - 5 months.
Books used - Kaplan Notes for CK and Videos , MTB for step 2CK , UCV surgery and Case files Psychiatry (overkill except for a great psychopharmacology part)

Qbanks Used - Kaplan CK Qbnak 65% ( tough fact oriented questions but more like current format) , UWorld 70% ( Intelligence and concept oriented questions - very god bank) - I did not do these questions over and over..

Exam experience - had a tough time sleeping (didn't sleep a single minute) , and thought that the exam was very hard, that has been discussed by my friends before - i made MANY mistakes, i think the score is still high because the marking is relative to others... so guys.. if you see hard questions please don't freak out... you will do great.

Finally thanks to God I am done with these exams.

Best of luck to all my friends on the forum.

Your scores are awesome and you definitely deserve more interviews..
Do you have any USCE? that will really add to your credentials.

First of all , a hearty congratulations to you...nd u'll surely get mor IVs after the programs see ur ck score.
i had a couple of doubts:
1). how long does it take to finish UW, if i study full time..? is 25-30 days enough, or does it take longer?
2). Is it possible to score like yours , if i skip kaplan qbank? or will i be risking mor , if i skip kaplan qbank..

thanks...nd al d bst for ur match...nd happy thanksgiving...

thanks dryogi, Yes i think if you have solid concepts from MTB and UW you are good to go. UW % is a very good predictor.Regarding MTB - i felt that i intentionally contradicted some points from MTB since the scenario was different. Sometimes MTB is oversimplified.

About Study time and UWorld - for some personal reason i was able to study only approx 5-6 hours / day. UW world i did only 1 block / day random timed. I think UW is possible to do in 20-30 days definitely. If someone is interested i can share that i used to take "notes" in UW and then in the tools section i was able to print it all out and have a very compact notes to see before exam. It maybe helpful.

Hi guys.... attached are my notes.... i originally meant that keeping notes in the UW program allows you to print it out later and use before the exam.

Please be advised that these notes are totally my personal and may have some mistakes.. also they dont have any numerical values ( i had to remove question numbers at last moment so i searched and replaced all digits with spaces) - but still may be useful.. i think i had 3-4 questions from this.

hope this helps.

yea i think one Qbank is what most people do.. I dont know what to say about picking one bank over the other - kaplan qbank is a good qbank and covers information not given at times in the lecture notes. but then again, UW is known for quite a few high yield concepts....

haha , no im very much from india, medical college in calcutta infact. I think Step 2 CK is a little different in the focus on mechanisms and on western conditions, but certainly being fresh out of final year would be a major asset for CK performance.

This exam was definitely harder than UW... i remember my first block and marking 3 of the first 5 qurestions.... some of these questions i answered on vague cues i read from kaplan lectures or from my medical GK... i thought im failing to be quite honest....but i think if you read well.. your guts will tell you the right thing no matter how much pressure you are under.. so dont worry about this.

also the exam question pool keeps changing.. i remember having a block or two of questions which were totally "standard" .. it could have been an experimental block for the next set of questions to be introduced... so the exam may be very different and standard for you..... hope this helps... good luck
