Smile Younissmed CK Exam Experience

Well , first of all I wanna thank all the people in this forum , You guys were a great help & support to me .
Second first of all , I really still can't believe that the day has come when I'm writing my step 2 experience.

Materials used :

Kaplan CK notes twice ( a great source & I think it's enough )
Kaplan videos ( all IM vids , Gyna , Psychiatry was great , epidemiology was ok , didn't watch OB nor Surgery & I think they are not good anyway )
First aid once ( was not too bad & actually had some infos that were not in KLN )
Bought MTB but didn't read a lot into it , but with a quick look I think it's really deficient & not enough at all for CK prep.
ECG Made easy for ECG since I hadn't taken Step 1 yet & ECG was a problem for me.
High Yield Neuroanatomy for the same reason.
Lots & lots of notes from Wikipedia ( seriously , it was great & helped me a lot understanding the concepts that I would have learned from step 1)
Offline UsmleWorld 2007 once ( used them as a studying material , after I finished each branch I solved the questions in UW )

Time of prep :

Start date , September 1st 2010 ( I know it was a long time ago but I started preparing in the first day of my internship )
Exam date , December 13th 2011
Total time 16 months ( it was on & off pattern of studying , I would say in the 16 months I had wasted about 4-5 months due to the revolution that took place here in Egypt last January that I had to put everything on hold for 2 months & at times I got bored & tired that I took some time off )
Avg hours of studying , 8-10 hrs\day.

Questions done :

UsmleWorld timed , random overall average 68% ( was getting 70-80% in the last 20 blocks or so & what really screwed my total avg are the first few blocks where I was getting scores in the 50s & 60s )
First Aid Q&A ( done all IM & some blocks in the end of the book , I'd say I've done about 65% of the total Qs & my Avg total was 80%+ , it's a good book I'd recommend it )
Kaplan QBook ( done about 40% of the questions & was getting scores in the 80s & 90s so I found it really straight forward & really easy so don't do it )
Kaplan Qbank offline 2005 ( done only 20% of the questions )
UWSA 213 ( Really screwed it up , was really nervous & fu*ked up real bad & I think I was not ready to take it , but whatever )
Free NBME Qs Avg in the 80s.
The questions posted in this forum was really good also.
Some iPhone questions apps ( I'd say I've done only 150 qs or so but didn't have time for the rest )

NB: while I was doing those questions , I took notes of everything I though important even if I knew the answer at that time & ended up with 350 pages of notes that was really helpful in the last couple of weeks .

Exam experience :

My first time trying to take the test was on November 15th when I forgot my scheduling permit & had to reschedule for November 22nd , & it worked out real fine for me since I hadn't had any sleep the first time which now I'm sure it was a big mistake & I wouldn't have survived the test with no sleep & also it gave me more time to review my notes , so when I went to the test center on the 22nd they told us the the test was canceled due to some demonstrations that were going on near the center & I'll have to reschedule , so I rescheduled my test 3 weeks later which I though was gonna be even better giving me some extra time to review even more , but I was wrong , I didn't have any more energy left & slept for 2 weeks I guess & couldn't read a single word , so I think that affected me in some way & I think once you're ready never delay the test but it was out of my hand , at least the second time

The test :

I'd say 50% of the questions were longer than UW , lots & lots of long questions that took the whole freak'n screen that I had to scroll down for the answers , so after I'm done with a long Q & I hit next , there's an even longer Q so it was a mess & after some long Qs there's eventually short 3 lines Qs , so I was like , FINALLY it's about time but the questions were like this in a way , ( If a guy is driving his car on a speed of 60 mph & there was a chicken crossing the road , WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE DRIVER ?? !! ) , so I was like, ARE YOU FU**'N KIDDING ME ? , But to be fair there were some doable questions but the length of the questions was really a problem.
I thought the questions were tougher than UW & vague & off course longer.
Time management was a disaster reading those long questions really took a long time & most of the time I had to re-read the damn question again cause I forgot what I had read in the first line .
I had about 5 or 6 Drug ad & abstract Qs that I marked & left them to the end but I didn't have time for them because of the long questions so I ran out of time before doing them , but I think I was gonna do them wrong anyway , I was never good at them & couldn't really prepare my self good enough for them , so I don't know how far that's gonna screw up my score , If anyone can tell me please :sorry:
Break management was a mess , I was planning on taking 3 break of 15 , 30 & 15 mins, one after each 2 block but ended up taking a break after every single block to use the bathroom , may be because of Red Bull or I was sweating to the inside , cause other than RedBull , I drank no other fluids , so it was weird since I usually don't go to the restroom those so many times , & also after each block I really needed a smoke .
although the test was 9 hours but I actually didn't feel it was 9 hours , time flied , may be because I was racing to read the questions but I was not tired at all but lost my concentration in the last 3 blocks or so , I'm not even sure , I was not concentrating .

I came out of the test & I had no idea how I've done & don't remember what the questions were , have no idea how bad I screwed up & actually don't even know if I screwed up or not .

Bottom line I'm just glad that it's over & I'm not even nervous about the results cause I think I couldn't have done more than what I've done .

Good luck everybody & I'll let you know what the damage is in 3 weeks, wish me luck.

congratulations finally you are done with exam...your exam experience will certainly help others...the Qs were surely lengthy...i gave my exam a week back..having same feelings, cant say anything about it, full of uncertainty..onething i am happy about..I gave the exam, you work so hard and than get fatigued and want it be over soon...biostat n ab/abstarct was most difficiult for me too...about ab/abstract same story, i dont get them cu'z no matter how hard I try, i end up doing them wrong.i always understand them after doing explanation my weak area...
now i just pray that i get good score cu's i really gave my best, did whatever was recommended...wishing us all luck..

for exam takers..time management is the key, dont relax if one block is easier than other, just be quick....
and lastly i really want to complain about prometric..they should separate GRE student..they drill your brain with all the typing...the surrounding was too noisy when i took my exam...so do complain if u have one, maybe we can make a difference cuz a lot of student suffer because of it....like me
best of luck,
study good and and believe me ALLAH will never let you down..
GOD BLESS

thanks buddy , well , I found High Yield very good cause I was very weak at neuroanatomy & actually still , cause I didn't study the whole book cover to cover , just read some stuff that was relevant to step 2 , but it's a good book. & in my test there was 1 or 2 questions in neuroanatomy in the whole thing as far as I remember.
about pharma I used wikipedia when I ran into something that I didn't get found it really helpful but had no pharma questions in my test. good luck.
