Default Just did Step 2 CK and marked 15 qs per block! Much harder than qbanks and nbmes...

Ok these are my stats:

Step 1: 255
Step 2 CS passed

Step 2 CK: 2 months prep
kaplan sim 1: 76%
kaplan sim 2: 84%
uworld avg 1st time: 81%
UWSA: +265
nbme 4: 229
nbme 3: 252
nbme 6: 271!?
nbme 7: 258
Free 150: 90%

But today I felt that the test was so much harder and different than all the qbanks or nbmes...I marked 119 qs out of 350 which is an avg of 15 qs per block! My question is, is this normal? has anybody else thought that CK was som much different (or harder) than the qbanks or nbmes? and being that said, how many qs did you mark on your test and what was our score?

I think your all your practice exams put into 1 average will be the near same or more for your outcome. Have not heard anyone door that poorly with that kind of average. Everybody feels like that after the exam and probably same for you.

What do you mean the exam was harder than the practice exams and uw? Can you share how you prepared for the 2 months?

Since I knew I only had 2 months, I only read MTB 2 and almost all First Aid. I emphasized on qbanks. USMLERX avg 82%, KAPLAN avg 72%, UWORLD avg 81% all of them timed unused mode. That was my prep. But then in this test I would say that around 2 out of 3 questions where very loose or trivial concepts which are not part of all the materials that I mentioned.

So then I am sure you will do very well. Those are all very high averages if you did the questions in timed unused. You worked hard and now wait for the good results. I am sure others will tell you the same

You will be fine according to your NBMEs.
What do you mean by trivial concepts?

Thanks timexa. Curacao what I mean by trivial concepts is very low-yield stuff.

for example?

all I can say to those who haven't taken it, someone took it the other day and posted this:

"It felt similar to my UWSA. There was much more consistency between UWorld and the real thing for step 2 compared to step 1. I walked out expecting a similar score to my practice test"

Wow! It is amazing how can you have so many versions...but in my case for example I got several psychology qs, yep you read it right PSYCHOLOGY not psychiatry, many vague ethics qs also. I was surprised also by 3-4 PUBLIC HEALTH qs! The type of qs like what would you do to improve the Emergency Department of your hospital...If I can compare my test to a qbank (and I did 3 of them USMLERX, KAPLAN and UW) I would say definitely that it is very similar to Kaplan qbank as it had many looong and very low-yield ridiculous questions.

I can completely relate to your experience and agree with everything you said, I just took my exam yesterday and can tell you that I don't have a satisfactory feeling which I had after step 1. Just hoping for the best and good luck to you too!

Exactly, I took my Step 1 four months ago and when I finished the test I knew I did well because it was very similar to all the review materials, qbanks, nbmes, etc. But CK was so different, I cant say that I did good, I will be very surprised if I do.

I posted this couple of days ago as well.
It is definetely much different than UW and NBME. Long, tricky questions.
I usually had 5-10 min at the end of each block but in real deal I couldn't even finish 3 of the blocks on time.
Can the starter of this thread share his/her score with us? You must have gotten your score by now.

Default 261 Score and thoughts about USMLEs grading systems

Sorry by forgetting to post about my final score. My score came back on July 29th and it was 261. Like I said in my initial comment, I was absolutely surprised by my result because although I had great NBME scores and Qbank averages, I felt the test was much harder and different and also much harder than Step 1.

I think this is like a standard of how people feel after taking step 2 CK. I talked with several friends and colleagues and practically all of them felt that they had done really bad or average and ended up scoring better than they thought.

Also I noticed that many people agree with the difference of Step 1. Colleagues and friends that I know that have good scores on their Step 1 actually knew it during the test or at the end of the test. But that is certainly not the case of Step 2 CK.

I think that this might help confirm the hypothesis of how the USMLE scores are graded (which is very shady). For example there is this concept that getting difficult questions correct might give you more points than easy questions. But most important, i think it might also this strong concept that your score is not the number or percentage of questions that you got right, but the reflection of how was your performance compared to the rest of the people who were asked the same questions that you got asked.

I think that although I marked an average of 15 questions per block (compared to only about 5-10 per block in my step 1 in which I scored 255) and got many questions wrong (more questions wrong than in my Step 1), in the end my performance was better than many other people that took my same test and that might explain why I got a high score.

Thanks for your feedback. When I took my exam this past Friday, I felt out that I got @$$ handed and felt crap afterwards. The exam was much more difficult than Step 1. I am hoping that I did better than I think.
