Default 2 weeks from exam ADVICE

Hey guys, so i have about 13 days (to be exact) of studying left so what do you'll think i should do?

im averaging 65-73% on uworld(random timed)
i got a predicted score of 233 on nbme 6 a week back.
im giving the uwsa this weekend so hopefully that gives me more confidence.

Should i just do Q's Q's and more Q's or should i also try and read my mtb where i have most of the concepts from everywhere written down or any flashcards i should go through in the end?
Also any suggestion for time management cause i feel like i will run out of it on the exam day.

Im open to suggestions, thank you and good luck to everyone.

Hi, i did step 2 today, unfortunately I ran out of time today almost in every block I suggest do uwsa and see how will be your score. If you are good enough don't be worry about the real exam because it is easier than uwsa. But the questions are really long. For practice time management I recommend you to do the self assessment exams fast and try to have 5 to 10 minutes left at the end of each block. It may help.

Before I give you any suggestions I should mention 2 things: 1) No ONE knows your study habits better than you, so take whatever advice anyone gives you here on this forum with a grain of salt. 2) I have not gotten my score back and have no idea how I did on the test so my advice for the last few days before the test might not be the best considering that there's a possibility that I might have not even passed due to running out of time on the test.

OK that being said: In my honest opinion, leave the last 3-4 days before the test to reviewing last minute stuff...indications/antibiotics/bugs/vaccinations, stuff that you need to look at the day before the test, you get the idea. So make sure that thats something you keep in mind.

Now because I personally and the previous posters ran out of time, I highly recommend that you stimulate a mock exam experience before the test. No necessarily the day before because it is a very draining experience and you want to relax the day before but maybe a week before. By the time I reached my 6th block, I felt like I was going to fall asleep. It was awful. Be prepared. Do a uworld self assessment +NBME or possibly kaplan assessment, whatever works for you. Just make sure you are mentally prepared to sit down for 9hrs.

Let me know if you have any other qs
All the best

Hey Saturn,
Congrats on getting done with the studying atleast man,i don't know if this phase is better or the anticipation for the result phase is better....both seem terrible when in it i guess.
Yeah i get what you're saying,i have like a few high yield things written down that i must go through a few days before or the day before the test.

I did the whole 9hr thing a few weeks back and in the 6th block it felt like time had slowed down in my head but it didn't according to the timer....so its going to be really tight on the day for me as well unfortunately.Pick and move on has to be the mantra in the exam i assume.

thanks man, some other things running through my mind -
1) What would you say the exam was more like, uworld? nbme tests? nbme clinical mastery series ?
2) Did it feel like there were some really easy Q's and some were Hard but doable and some which threw you of your game? or was it all just a blur of tough ones?
3) Did reading the last line of the Q's and skimming through the options 1st before reading the actual Q help?

Thanks for your post,have fun.

I took it about a month back and found it extremely hard,so i pushed my exam back at the time....i did the clinical mastery series after and then did nbme 6 and did okay so for now my UWSA will tell me where i stand and hopefully i can finish this test on the 4th.

Honestly though i don't know if there's anything else i can do to increase my scores,i have kind off come to the point where ive done all i can do,so before i get too frustrated i will try my best for the next 10 days and see how it goes man.Thats the plan.

faith 255, i tried sending you a pm,but it says your inbox is full.

hey neelima208 , the plan is the same for most i think, mtb 2/3 and lots of uworld....take a couple of nbmse...if satisfied with score, give the exam.

i did dit which helped in giving me a structure cause i got frustrated with the lack of improvement and it actually helped increase my score as well so you could try that i guess.
The Nbme clinical mastery series is good, but searching for the answers is pain, but it will tell you what the high yield concepts are atleast.
good luck.

good luck samren. What was your assessment score before and after DIT? What year of DIT was that? I heard mixed things of the course for applying knowledge on the mcqs. Dont forget to revise biostats and keep doing uworld on random of 2 or 3 block per day. I cant say much for mtbs because information is mixed on that. I said in other reply how mtb 2 and mtb 3 management on same topic can be different answer even on latest or previous edition, so make sure on that because it is all over the place in all chapters of both books. Not every topic but many, you will see if you look closely. No other books to choose for ck so mtbs are ok for that reason and since you already used them, don't use any new materials.

Thanks timexa,
So im not one of those 240's -250's students,im just a borderline pass student which is why i think DIT and stuff works better for people like me cause we have a lot of gaps in our knowledge and understanding of things.
It was DIT 2011 so an older version and i used the workbook more than the videos, like all the tests they have are pretty high yield stuff for someone who doesn't know whats needed to know.

Pre-DIT in NBME 4 i got 177 as my usmle predicted score(210 nbme scoring)
Post -DIT in NBME 7 i got 206 as the predicted score ( 350 nbme scoring)...but this was a hard test in my opinion.

Then i did the clinical mastery series and after did NBME 6 and got 233 as predicted score 480(nbme scoring)...although on this one i felt like i got lucky a lot (or maybe that's just my pessimistic brain at work).

I'm giving UWSA tomorrow so im really hoping for a good confidence boosting score (again not a 240,but atleast a 220 so i can relax my nerves a little)

I'm kind of confused as to whether to do my uworld notes that ive written down or just keep doing 2-3 uworld blocks or revise the clinical mastery series? I have this feeling where i want to go through everything once quickly but i don't know how to go about it?

Yeah actually i made mtb more like a writing pad and most of the info that i study from the book are all the notes ive made from uworld but thanks for the heads up man.

That is a big jump with pre-post DIT! good job!

I would revise the uworld notes you are using since that is most high yield and is something you are familiar with. That's the point of taking notes mmm?

Yeah i agree, but apparently not enough,I just did UWSA and reality has hit again cause i got a 204 predicted score,so now im back to not knowing what to do....any suggestions?

I think ill have to end up pushing it back again(so frustrating man...any other field if anyone worked this hard they'd be making some money by now)

i know no one can tell for sure, but how long do you'll think i will take to make the pass mark? 1wk? 2wks? 1 mo? and should i be looking to do some other sources like 20 cases of conrad etc? or just stick it out with uworld and my notes?

Was individual strength level score different on UWSA areas than of same subject report in assessments? example low points in uwsa obgyn, low points in past obgyn areas assessment? Did you finish all of uw subjects in each subject? If not, I would keep doing that and look at all score report areas of weakness and revise your uw notes and uw in those area concepts. I don't know much of other things to help. Everything is averaging from #4 177, #6 233, #7 206, uwsa 204, is almost at borderline passing range ~213 . If exclude pre-DIT #4 177, then average is ~ 214. If you need 1 or 2 more week, it may help.

I totally get u, it seems so frustrating to keep extending the date We can just try a little more harder, do our best & leave the rest to GOD.. so yeah extend it for 2 wks more, do UW, kaplan if u want.. And don't forget u did pass nbme 6 with quite a decent score..

Hey timexa, thanks for the break down of the numbers and stuff man..but i have kindoff calmed down and gotten over the frustration(partly atleast).
This is my 2nd round of uworld,1st time i did it subject wise and was getting from 45 55 % at the time.

Anyway so now im going to do 20 cases by Conrad fisher along with my daily Q's and hope to god that my score increases by this weekend....but i think im pushing it back till the 12-14th of august.
