Default a quick question

Hi all:

I forgot where i saw this question in UW, however,

if we want to take blood culture and give antibiotics to adults and children

in children we give antibiotics first and then take blood culture because as i remember if we take blood a few hours after we gave antibiotics, we can still get the bacteria;

in adults, we can only take blood culture first and then give antibiotics.

What makes these two differences? And also please correct me if i am wrong.

Thank you!
