Stats The number one cause of Mental Retardation

Hey everyone,

A while ago I read an article on medscape stating:

"Fragile X syndrome, also termed Martin-Bell syndrome or marker X syndrome, is the most common cause of inherited mental retardation and is the second most common cause of genetically associated mental deficiencies after trisomy 21."

Now my question is what is the difference between most common inherited MR vs Genetically associated MR. Aren't they the same thing?

Keeping that the USMLE is a bit behind, for the sake of the exam, is Down's still the number one cause of congenital MR while fragile X is number 2?

Thanks in advance.
