Default Failed CK twice, totally devasted

Hi i really need help. I failed Ck for the second time with a score even lower than last time, 192. I took 2.5 year gap after last attempt. I did uworld n kaplan videos/books, mtb2, 3 all over again. UWSA 2 weeks before the exam was 215.
I have given up on residency but i am still hoping to do CK again just to complete my license and not have all the previous steps go to waste. I have passed step 1 and CS in first attempt.
Please guide me about courses online which i can take to improve myself. I dont want to waste any more time grieving over it like last time. Also I cant follow the same pattern again myself. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, I absolutely understand your frustration man but you're a in a really tough situation. Let me first tell you that if you do CK for the third time and you get 250+, you'll need to do a looooot of research, MPH, PhD, connections...etc to make your application stand out. It will take years but eventually you'll get the residency.

Another option is to forget about the whole clinical career. Do GRE test and apply for PhD and you'll be an academic professor. It's not a bad option and you'll have a very good life but it will be research based. It all depends on what you want. Failing CK once may be overlooked but twice makes it very tough.

If you want to retake CK, my advice is Uworld, MTB III and Kaplan notes. I know you already did that but I think you did a mistake. The mistake is that you memorized the questions, instead you should understand it deeply and focus on every little word. This strategy can guarantee you 230+, to get more you'll need to do more, Fist Aid CK is helpful. MTB and Uworld are not enough for Psych, read Board Review Series. However, before reading any more source, consolidate uworld and MTB, pay attention to every letter. After you do that, you can add more sources. Another important thing, MAKE YOUR OWN NOTES AND REVIEW THESE NOTES OVER AND OVER AND OVER. These notes are more important than any other source.

No one can tell what to do, ONLY you can make this decision.

Thanks for your reply. Ive done the same books and uworld over and over again. I feel completely fed up, which is why i am thinking about doing some online courses for a change in strategy. Do you think kaplan classroom anywhere can help?

I don't know about these online courses but I think it's a waste of time, effort and money. What was your UWorld score in the last Qbank run ?

Default Do not give up!!!!! Nothing worth having comes easy!!!

Dr.Caramel

So so sorry to hear what happened. It is a devastating feeling and i know you are feeling down right now, and on the verge of giving up. But i must tell you DO NOT GIVE UP ON RESIDENCY. Please please, do not. If medicine was easy everyone will be doing it, but you have come this far with passing step 1 and cs on first attempt, that means you have the ability to pass this exam also. Though your 2 attempts is looked down upon, but like the above response poster stated, you have to work on other aspects of your application like, adding an MPH program, research, etc.

I know the feeling of doing something over and over and no results coming out of it. The problem with the usmle is that we hear of different exam experiences and study strategies and we think that is the best way, but we fail to neglect that different individuals study and retain very differently. So one individual who only studied uworld might get a 250 and the other individual who did the same gets a 210. This is because of so many different factors, such as IQ, study strategy and habits, etc.

I do agree, online courses ARE A WASTE OF TIME. They will just read to you what is already in the books, or tell you what you can read for yourself. You do not need someone to pamper you through this. You have to take a stand and change your study habits, and do something different. I recommend rather doing a Kaplan q bank twice or more then coming back to uworld and doing it multiple times. I also recommend taking notes. For my step 2 ck i maintained a uworld note of about 300 pages of high yield things i learned. You might be a visual learner so learn to start drawing out diagrams and using highlighters and colors or emphasize on high yield topics. Don't just do uworld just to do questions. This is what a lot of people do and they think they are learning from it, but THEY ARE JUST MEMORIZING QUESTIONS and putting it in their short term memory, and if that question is asked in a months they forget it because they forgot the concept behind it.

Please do not give up. YOUR 3rd try will be your VICTORY. Work on enhancing your application, take step 3 and apply for the 2017 match. It is not over. God Bless

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I was planning to start kaplan classroom anywhere live course, but now im in doubt. I did uworld once unused/timed mode/random and then i did the incorrects only on second round. I didnt do any other qbank.
Please give me your honest suggestion, if i should do kaplan videos again?
Also if i should do more qbanks like kaplan qbank and usmlerx?
I'm just really confused on where to start again.
