Unhappy Direct and Indirect Coombs Test in Pregnancy!

OK, Am reading for the CK and I noticed that they mentioned we have to do direct Coombs test to check for the Rh then we have to do Indirect Coombs before giving RhoGAM.

I really do not understand why is that, Can anybody please explain for me in understandable language

Direct coombs tests for antigens on RBC surface therefore used for typing
Indirect coombs tests for antibodies in the serum therefore used for isoimmunization
