Fire Thread The NEW CK exam -- a discussion together

There has been much talk about how the new CK questions in the last several months have been very difficult. It also appears that the average IMG score has dropped. There are reasons for this, but I don't know those reasons yet. For those that have taken the CK, can you please give us your feedback about why you think IMGs are suffering? There has been little CLARITY about what actually MAKES the new exam harder. It seems clear that UW has not yet adjusted to the new exam format, so our current resources are lacking. But the question is "What re our current resources actually missing?"

Let us remember too, that the US students take the same exam. It's not about how "hard" the exam is, alone. The scores are distributed. Let us be logical and thoughtful about this.

Is it that the questions are:
- TOO LONG? eg: we can't process the information fast enough?
- VAGUE? eg: we don't even know what disease they are talking about?
- BIZARRE? eg: we haven't even heard of some of the diseases in the multiple choice options?
- RANDOM TOPICS that are not discussed in UW/MTB, like the kind of stuff that only comes out in the wards?
- ???

Let us discuss and learn, so that we may overcome!

Thanks a lot for discussing this
Great idea

i think the problem is that the exam is a mix of VAGUE and BIZARRE questions.

of Course the Known sources which we most of us study are deficient and Lacking nowadays as UW Qbank , Kaplan notes & its Q bank , MTB2&3 , NBME & Clinical Mastery Series.

It's Crisis to study hard all these materials and solve 2 Q banks( uw& Kaplan) ,UWSA , NBME and CMS.
and then finally 70% of the exam comes out of all these materials with new ideas and information we never heard or know anything about.

Honestly now , We don't know from where we can study for CK Exam?

I want to Know 2 things:
How will they evaluate us in such exam? (score , pass or fail)
Why they let us suffer a lot?

USMLE IS VERY LONG EXHAUSTIVE EXPENSIVE PROCESS

Honestly Enough the suffering of taking the visa to take our CS exam which is held only in USA ,
in spite of Knowing that CS Exam is held only in their Country (United State of America) , paying money for exam , passing 2 steps ,
THEY DON'T GIVE US THE VISA TO TAKE OUR FINAL EXAM TO BE ECFMG CERTIFIED.

IN ADDITION NOW THE EXAM IS GETTING VERY HARD WITH BRAND NEW IDEAS OUT OF ALL OUR STUDY MATERIALS ....... WHAT A SURPRISE
ERAS to apply for residency spot is unfair suffering process.
THEREFORE USMLE IS NOT FOR MEDICINE OR CARING OR TREATING PEOPLE BUT FOR MONEY BUSINESS

Simply, if they don't want IMG anymore , Simply Just Close USMLE to IMG or announce that there is no USMLE for IMG anymore instead of all this suffering ,misery and losing money.

i don't know if i'm right or wrong

but all i know now , i regret that i begin USMLE Pathway .
it was my fault that i didn't think well.

Thank you

Default Reality check

The reality is ~50% of IMGs per year get residency positions (at least based on last years statistics). That is not that bad. Let's stay optimistic and productive in this discussion. Most IMGs appear to be struggling with the CK at the moment, so you are not alone!

Default Silence

Wow, so many people complaining about the exam and their scores, yet when asked why... silence? :|

Thumbs Up Let's work together to overcome that exam!

I believe that there is a communication problem between USMLE and the people it supposed to serve. They should have published in advanced the changes and what these changes consisted of. By leaving everybody in the dark they create a vacuum for misunderstanding and unfair criticisms. I am preparing to take the exam in March, now I am worry about what to study in preparing for that exam. Those who took the exam should give examples of the format and questions style to those of us who are preparing for the exam.
