Default Is this foolish?

Hey,

I am an IMG from the UK (cambridge uni). I am going to take step 1 in 20 days (yes, that does mean I will be revising on christmas. ). Anyways, I have been doing some research (which i should have done some time ago) and have seen that deadlines for residency applications are at the end of November. I am going to undertake a clinical elective in australia this summer as the US was just something i could not afford. That means after step 1 (assuming i pass) i will have about 5 months to do step 2ck (along with my finals) and then i will have step 2cs to do hopefully in september. is this doable? I just want to be able to apply this year and not have to stick around!

Default Allow me to share an exp of mine

I took my step1 March 2015
ck Aug 2015
Cs sept 2015
Gathered LORs, made my PS etc & applied Oct 7 2015..
Received 4 interviews so far with pending cs. I had good contacts.

What I did wrong was not schedule CS sooner.. They fill up quick..
As of March 2015, the soonest available sched for CS was Sept 2015... Waiting period for results is posted on the website so consider that info.

Also gather LORs and all papers by August and apply on time by Sept 15 to maximize your chances of getting IVs.. Also aim and work for 250s.

Where did you get your LoRs from? I am quite worried that I wont have anything from the US. Thanks for the help!

3 home country LORS.. Chief, PD & attending
1 LOR from lab supervisor who isnt MD. Ive been working in a hospital lab here in the US for 3yrs.

They never specified that the LORs have to be from MDs anyway.

Hi smetin92,
I would take the CS in March or April at the latest because the results can take up to 3 months. It doesn't matter if you take 2CS before CK, you can take them in any order. Some program directors don't even look at your application if it's not complete.

I would love to do it this way but i have my elective slap bang in the middle from june-august. i cant exactly skive off to revise when i am there which is the issue. i will see how i am after step 1 because from what i can see there is a possibility to get 2cs done quite quickly. thanks for the help!

Thank you very much The only other thing i can think of doing is to try and get them done at the same time. I would have ordinarily tried to do ck in april but if i add cs with it then perhaps May? I will need to look into this further when i dont have step 1 in my way

hi there, your exam taking frequency is very impressive. i have some questions if you don't mind answering. are you an IMG? how long did you study for the step1? choosing a short interval between step 1 and 2 ck was wise? asking as i am about to take the step 1 and not sure when would be the best time to take ck. thanks a lot.
