USMLE Books kaplan LN or MTB for IM

hey I am newbie from step 1 forum, hi to all

For IM I had planned to read Kaplan then MTB but now that I've started Kaplan CK LN, I feel there is nothing new in lecture notes from step 1, so can I only read MTB for medicine and skip Kaplan, so that I get more time to do lot of questions

Thanks

Hi i too am starting for step2 but no single good review book for step2 worries me.What did u mean by saying LN similar to step1 which subject is similar?? i cudnt get what did you want to say.Anyways i havent read mtb for IM so cant comment on that.
What i have searched so far some people use only mtb2, some use IM from mtb2 and other subjects either from mtb3 or FA.
This strategy makes me feel confused......i am about to start and still dont know which review book should i follow.

Default Here is the thing >>>

Hi ,, I know exactly what you are talking about:

I finished the CK step and there are somethings to be noted here:

In CK you don't build pieces of basic knowledge instead you build a concept meaning lots of protocols supported by evidence based medicine, So While you read the lecture notes of internal medicine you may be aware of those pieces of knowledge I'm talking about (specially that you are done with Step1) but building a concept is something else. So my advice to you just take your time screening the lecture notes for once at least.

For MTB 2 it contains the extract of internal medicine lecture notes BUT for sure not everything is in there.

This is my CK experience and there you will fined how I utelized both of them.

i meant while reading internal medicine LN from kaplan ,i feel its a repetition of step 1 contents .Therefore, i m finding it very boring .can i skip kaplan for IM and go directly to MTB and Qs

Like I told you I can't advice you to take this risk, at least read it as if you make a screening.

Im new to step2 as well. My strategy is to do MTB-2 then solve Qs from UWorld and then read KaplanLN. This way we know how we should go about a certain topic. Plus you can add the notes from UWorld to the related topic in Kaplan LN/MTB-2. Any suggestions to this rookie method are welcome..plz

Thanks dr ahmed ,u are right ,its not good to take such a risk .kaplan is classic for board preparation specially for IMGs .its important to get a basic outline of everything before going to review books .i got it ,thank you so much.

u're method is good but u r putting kaplan LN at the end.i will be taking just 3-4 months of prep and it will be better one banging on the high yield stuff at the end ,than reading the bulky kaplan notes .
but everybody approach is different, if you feel comfortable with it then its fine.

it all depends on what score u r aiming and how much time u r ready to invest .

Now you are increasing my headache a new review book?
Never heard of it anywhere here.
Did any of your friends recommend that, did you compared the stuffs.
Sorry for putting so many questions, but none of my friends here in India ever told me this stuff.
I have just 3 months for this step and need a concise book.

step up to usmle step 2 is the most loved book by AMGs for step 2ck. but it lacks in medicine which i will read from MTB.
I ordered both the books from amazon also first aid step 2cs .total cost was around 130 $ and 50$ shipping charges(delivered in 3 days) .these books are generally hard to get other than US.

i think step up is very good ,its thin and concise (around 300pg) just what u r looking for and u will not read its medicine part.i also have just 3 months for ck and hate the fact that there is no one review that is complete for CK.

That's right ,, MTB 2 is good for internal medicine, Pediatrics and Psychiatry

But not for other branches (surgery Obgy. & Gyne.) so some people like to go for MTB 3 for the mentioned subjects (yet I didn't do that)

By the way you can finish MTB 2 in only 1 week if you worked hard on it.

So MTB IM + MTB 2 + MTB 3 is good enough then? I was wondering what about Step to Med? I know they have new one coming out this year (not sure of exact date), but would 2008 ed be helpful?
