Question Lactulose and Periodontitis

Hello to everybody.

Just came across an interesting fact in internet. Lactulose can be used in the treatment of periodontal disease. I tried to find more detailed info of how exactly lactulose heal the periodontitis but haven't found any.

How come it be? What's the underlying mechanism?

Thank you.

Hmmm... I don't think so. Are you sure you weren't reading about peritonitis?

Weird! I suppose that it never really worked out as a treatment, since it looked like it never panned out and no research has been done on it since 1975.
I wonder what the proposed mechanism was...
