Thumbs Up Dr.dhruvdesai USMLE CK xPerience

DONE with it !!

Well, i would say easier than expected . . .

BUT ... The L.E.N.G.T.H .... soooo lenghty questions ... !!

Things should be sorted out....or else u may have very tight time management to deal with in the end questions.

Difficulty level:

Easy: 40%
Moderate:35%
Difficult: 20%
WTF: 5%

See this
USMLE Step 2 CK Difficulty Percentages

Tips(MY RULES) :

1. If u dont know answers - try and eliminate by looking for pathognomic features...( helps in many)

2. If u have never heard of "any of the given choices" , beware... do not automatically discard it as a wrong answer... USE RULE NO 1.

3. For ADD and abstract : Do them only in the end and read the question first and the add later... no need to read the entire add or abstract

4. FOR long questions Follow i followed dr-ahmed's strategy - Read the end question first

5. Once you get and idea wat the ans may be (think while u read the first two lines) , go for it...JST GO FOR IT... READ FAST AND PAUSE ONLY TO REGISTER ANY "Positives" or "Contraindication"... or else... SKIM SKIM SKIM through the negative histories...where they keep saying - 'No This ' , ' No That'... etc.

6. Vitals: scan through...AT A GLIMPSE.. Pause only if abnormal , n make a quick mental note (saved me a lot of time)

7. Dont loose tract of time (Divide a block into 20-20-20 min periods of 17-17-10 questions each... you may not be able to follow it most of the time.. but helps you stay on your toes)

8. Take regular breaks and Leaks.. RUN IN and RUN out... YES-"RUN!!!"

9.Plenty of juice , tang , gatorade ,glucose, water + Cereal bars/bananas/Red bull

10. PAIN KILLERS...take them midaway... just in case u fell u may get a headache or back ache.. u dont wanna be worried by anything else

11. DO NOT FORGET YOUR SCHEDULING PERMIT... U need the CIN no. every time to starty our block

12. Wear appropriate jacket , if u need to prevent from Getting chilly in d A/C

13. RELAX a Moment before starting a block - say relax three times and say " i am gonna do well "... helps

14. Audio : CONSIDER AGE - CHIEF SYMPTOM -best indicators of which murmur and which area to look for... If additional information on ANY FACTORS modifying the murmur intensity is given..ITS ALL URS

15. Psychi questions are really long and CONFUSING - Dont mess around much wasting ur time...most of the time if u dont get it the first time, it will only harm you by wasting your time

16. LASTLY , BEST OF LUCK GUYS... DONT PANICK...
i did ..and had temporarily forgotten my address when the prometric guy asked me about it at the time of Biometrics...

and if the xperience helps - do express ur gratitudes.. will feel good to be giving back to this community which has helped to explore and learn more and more...

Warning!

tyagee... for ex.

if choices are...

8. An AIDS patient under treatment with a nucleoside analog and a protease inhibitor comes to medical attention with complaints of leg weakness and incontinence. His vital signs are within normal limits. Physical examination reveals reduced strength in the lower extremities with accompanying mild spasticity. There is also diminished sensation in the feet and legs bilaterally. Lumbar puncture shows: Opening pressure.....100 mm H20
Cell count................5 lymphocytes/mm3
Glucose...................48 mg/dL
Proteins, total..........33 mg/dL
Gamma globulin.......8% total protein
Additional laboratory investigations show normal hematologic parameters, vitamin B12 within normal values, and negative serology for syphilis. MRI of the head fails to reveal any focal abnormality. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?
A. AIDS dementia complex
B. CMV polyradiculopathy
C. Cryptococcal meningoencephalitis
D. Vacuolar myelopathy
E. Zidovudine-related toxicity

HERE the Ans is "D"

but sometimes wat we tend to do is , ignore the choice as beeing the rite ans
just becoz we dont kno abt it...

DONT DO THAT , INSTEAD LOOK FOR imp features pertaining to each of the other choices...for A , B , C , E .. if absent... they r incorrect so ur correct ans is D.. got it ?

NO SOURCE OF PREP for the ADD and Abstract Q. i tried to find out what i could for it but Nothing on the internet.

SO my ADVICE...

DO the questions in UW ,
know the biostat conceptually...in terms of validity and stuff...p value , confidence intervals , significance of null values etc..

Also another source of Questions ids the practice questions offered by the usmle website itself..

makes it around 10-12 questions u hav practiced.. rest is upto GOD

say 3-4 blocks i had time to revise 5/12-15 of my marked questions

i am naturally a slow guy , so i had to develop fast reading techniques to keep up with the pace there.

So if u kno u r slow prepare beforehand

AND THE "RUN" part... well..
1 min to sign out , 1min to sign in
1 min to open locker and take out the eatables or tang or juice or whateve ,

I took my bananas n cereal bars from the locker to the men's room..
and then WOULD MULTI TASK TO SAVE TIME..
i hope u got my poin...
it would take 2 more mins to clean up and close the locker and go back in

that makes it 5 mins..u do wanna believe u wil def take 5-7 mins of a break even if u hurry

so a break after every block - -6 min * 7 breaks = 42 mins
u hav a 45 min time for break (50-53 if u skip ur tutorial..)

i hope u understood

step enhancer... my advice is " DONT FALL INTO WHAT PORTIONS WERE TESTED MORE"

BECAUSE... every body gets a diff pool of questn and not neccecarily well distributed...preparing more for some n less for others is a big risk..
