GIT colon cancer start with sigmoidoscope?

Hi all:

In Kaplan Surgery p.33, it says that we start with proctosigmoidoscope exam and then colonoscope. But MTB CK says proctosigmoidoscope is not very sensitive test since 40% of the colon cancer occurs proximal to the rectum and sigmid colon.

Can we jump proctosigmoidoscope and do colonoscope first? My rationale is since colonscope is longer so we can see everything( incuding seeing sigmoid colon) but for sigmoidoscope we cannot see everything.

Thank you

You are right. Colonoscopy has got a benefit of higher sensitivity. As a patient or a surgeon, I would prefer colonoscopy over proct

However, proctosigmoidoscopy on the other hand is considered a handy and economic option for screening the low risk population.
