Help Lack of confidence; thinking of Kaplan Course

Hello I'm an IMG from Colombia.
I graduated in 2010

I just did the step 1 last month, I got a bad score 190/75 after 1 year of reading by myself, based in Kaplan lecture notes and UWQbank.
After this result I lost my confidence, although I realized I made mistakes during my preparation.

- I skipped the videos
- I didn't find a study partner
- I based my study plan in forums and blogs
- I spent 1 year and my original plan was around 6 months
- I had a break of 1 month so I had to restart.
- I didn't memorize the FA (but read it twice)
- I was biased because I did UWSA twice
- One study plan does not work for everyone.

After all this thoughts, I'm right now planning how to correct them for my preparation for the Step 2 ck. Taking the tools and resources I need to ace that test.

I already have the Kaplan CK Lecture Notes and videos from 2008. But due my lack of confidence now I'm considering to pay a Kaplan Course.
I just want to know.. What would you do in my shoes?

Thanks In advance.

-D

If I were in your shoes I'd start reading KLN and the videos and then start doing Kaplan CK Qbank.

After 2-3 weeks of Kaplan Qbank if I see myself scoring above 60%, I'll do one of the NBMEs and if that predict a score above 230 then I won't need further courses/resources, I just go on finishing Kaplan Qbank and then USMLE World.

If I don't get above 60% in the Qbank and if the NBME predict less than 230, I'd seriously think about a Kaplan CK course.

Thank you for your opinion.
I'm afraid I won't find a study partner without doing that course.
And I don't feel ready to start again but I'll have to decide.

I appreciate it, Thanks!

Default Kaplan Course?

What do you think are the advantages/disadvantage of take a Kaplan Center prep course.

I'm thinking to take 3-6 months of center prep just to find a place to study with other peers that are in the same page. Because I already hace the books and videos (08-09) I'm looking for reasons to justify the price. $

If there is a thread where someone have had asking about this, please let me know, thanks!

I'll go for the Kaplan course if I can afford it. It is just to boost your confidence. Also, a good study partner will help you to stay on track.
Remember, no course or book or material can give you a good score. What will give you a good score is understanding of the concept about that particular topic. It does not matter what resource you use. Some people have received excellent scores just by doing Multiple QBanks and searching for explanation online (Wikipedia and number of sites).
What you need is "focused study" which is do a particular question and read the explanation from multiple sources till you know it inside out and get the concept.
Also, it is very important to remember that Step 2 is entirely different from Step 1 and you need to remember many buzzwords to arrive at the answer but it is also getting more and more concept oriented.

Bottomline: Preparation material does not matter. It is what you know which matters.
