Blood Blood transfusion before 1985 and HIV infection

Should someone who's had a blood transfusion before 1985 be tested for HIV?

But isn't that exactly the point? Blood transfusions were not screened before 1985 for HIV. So my guess is, since AIDS manifests after 10 years it depends on his clinical presentation. If the patient appears asymptomatic, then I would not screen him. However, if he presents with signs of AIDS or opportunistic infections, then the blood transfusion he had before 1985 could possibly be the risk factor, assuming no other high risk factors are in his history.

i dont think he should get screened almost 27 years later, it is almost impossible for him to have been asymptomatic that long unless he is one of those rare slow progessers and even then its a stretch.
