Default MTB 2 vs MTB 3

I have been doing a few questions and have been looking through MTB 2 whiie doing the questions from rx. today i looked in MTB 3 and found that a few questions i had were answered in MTB 3 versus them not in MTB 2. I like the way MTB 3 looks alot better than MTB 2. I was wondering if anyone has ever looked through both and what do you think about not using MTB 2 at all.

i read both and definitely agree that you shouldnt use mtb2 at all. i would add, however, that you shouldnt bother with mtb 3 either. which qbank were you doing? and did you really need mtb to answer those questions?

Iam doing rx(medium and hard) first, kaplan 2nd, uw x2 3rd. Oh and the nbme and clinical mastery series. I read a few threads with people like pholston, maryjane and obelcap that have done will with this regiment.

I think mtb 3 is put together better. But everyone say mtb 2 is what you should read.

but which qbank were you referring to when you said that the answers were found in mtb? and did you already know the answer to the question without the aid of mtb?

im quite surprised by that. for me, the mtb was totally useless. after step 2ck and step 3 i went through the books to see if there was anything in them on my exam.... but there wasnt for either exam. maybe there was something on an easy question that i didnt even bother remembering... but nothing that made it worth my time to read those books. to contrast, after step 1 i found exactly 50 questions with answers in first aid.

lol , NBME must test us on alien medicine then?? Come on bro , we all agree MTB or any other source available for CK is not complete, i think you took it to the next level with your statement .

no, im just being honest. i know that there obviously cannot be an all-inclusive usmle review book.... but i do not get the purpose of mtb. its not good for the basics or to get an understanding of important concepts... neither does it have high-yield details on more complicated topics.... what its good at is the low yield and rare. at any rate, its definitely material that can be skipped. and im not the only one with this view, as i've seen other people with high scores who agree that mtb is a waste of time. after you take your exam, look through the book and see for yourself.

or, consider doing the uworld step 3 qbank instead. you will probably be surprised by how useful it is for step 2ck.

i will admit though that not reading mtb is hard advice to take... despite not being satisfied with it for step 2ck, i still read them again for step 3. i over-studied, and wasting time on bad material (e.g., usmle consult for step 3) was counterproductive.

Dude you really do not like mtb at all do you!
Yea it has tons of mistakes but it gets the thing done in short time. If you are smart about how you use it, mainly supplementing it with uworld its a decent summary of high yield topics. I agree that there is no point in reading mtb again and again like FA for step 1. Read it once for 7-10 days, write down stuff/corrections from UW and u should be fine.

In terms of accuracy, step 2 secrets is better than mtb. Though not everything is covered and its q/a format
