Question pneumococcal vaccine for newly diagnosed HIV patients

Hi all:

UW says that newly diagnosed HIV patients should receive pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccination( PPV) unless CD4 T cell count less than 200/cm3.

What does that mean? We still give PPV if CD4 is less than 200 or not?

Thank you!

no we dont, & <200 pt must be started on TMP-SMX for PCP
on the other hand influenza vaccine is given annually to al HIV pt regardless of CD4 count

Well correct we guys, if I am wrong in interpretting the question but low Cd4 count in an HIV pt is not a contraindication for pneumococcal vaccine.

yea its not contraindicated but NOT recommended when under cd4<200 cuz no the immune system is too weak to generate response to this vaccine
