Post Got my step 2 ck score today and it is 264

I gave my exam on 3rd May, 2016
Step 1 score : 252
IMG
Preparation time : 3 months
Material : UWORLD 2015
Didn't use MTB or kaplan , except going through few videos

UWSA : 264 1 week back
NBME 7 : 250 2 week back
NBME 4 : 255 3 week back
NBME 6 : 255 4 week back
REAL CK EXAM score : 264

Step 1 knowledge will help you a lot .
I would like to stress on the fact that UWORLD does the magic. Just believe in UWORLD and make sure you don't leave any topic you don't know on uworld.
Practice many questions. I did Clinical mastery series at the end and it was really helpful.
Discuss with your friends and believe me it will help a lot . You owe your score to them.
Try to finish each block by 55 minutes, regardless of confusing questions.
I find step 2 ck all about question solving skill rather than knowing content in detail.
Finally , hardwork and little bit of luck is what you need to get your desired score

Congratulations DrAmygdala.

How did you arrange and utilize usmle world ck when you studied? Can you explain more about that?

I didn't understand what you said about not knowing content in detail and how it is more of a question solving skill.

Do you have advice on how to get better at your question solving? How did you read the question on the exam? Did you look at the last line or read the answers first or something else?

A few people here did not use MTB to pass and that is interesting to see you also said that. Thank you for the help.

Congratulations! I have just started studying for CK and I'm using Kaplan and UWorld but it's getting hard to figure out how to study, like whether to do uworld by topic and whether do them before or after studying that topic. Do you have any advice about this?

getting that score in 3 months with uworld only ? how is that possible ?
Are you a recent graduate ? Or a resident in your country ?

Congrats! Thank you so much for your helpful advice. It seems like question answering skill is much more important than simply knowing the content.

I did uworld timed system wise and went through explanation for wrong questions only.
I made flashcard for important concepts.
Just go through the question from beginning, try to understand the scenario , and try to formulate answer before even looking at the options and once you see options , choose best among them. I never looked at last line , especially in CK , it won't help for sure .
I did not use MTB , and i think its not required , if you have good step 1 knowledge.

Dont stress about it , I think , hold your kaplan study now , and Start doing Uworld. If you have hard time solving any questions , then you can use kaplan or any other source as a reference. Eventually in exam , you need to solve question, and that skill comes only doing lots and lots of questions

I don't think I am in a position to answer your queries. I didn't use mtb 2 or 3 . I directly started doing uworld , and worked on my weaker concepts , looking at the explanation, or relevant kaplan concepts. I used to do 1 block per day and completed doing uworld in 1 and half month . Later , I went through wrong questions only and doing nbme and clinical mastery series in remaining month.

I graduated in November 2014 No, i am not a resident
May be because i used flash cards for my step 1 , concepts sticked to my mind and even some facts.
I used flash card during step 2 ck as well for important concepts.

Thanks DrAmygdala!

On usmle world, how did you choose each system? Only Internal Medicine looks like it has systems. What about for Pediatrics, Surgery, Psychiatry, OBgyn subjects?

Did you pick all the above subjects and then choose respiratory system? And then the same for each other system?

On the exam, how did you read the question?

Ya , I did systemwise only for internal medicine . I did rest of them subjectwise.
Sometimes, in exam , because of time restraints, you might have to do a bird's eye view to question, and try to see different clues in a glance. But most of the time , i was going through whole questions first and then selected the best option.

Interesting. So do you think 5 months would be enough time to get a decent score ( lets say 240 + ) for average people ( not fast learners like you) ?
