Thyroid Why increased Iodine Uptake in initial phase of Thyroditis?

Hi all:

UW says that rare patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis present initially with hyperthyroidism and INCREASED radioiodine uptake followed by hypothyroidism.

Why there is INCREASED radioiodine uptake?

Thank you!

Because the tissues are inflamed initially so it expel hormon & and as part of inflammatory process there is increased vascularity leads to increased up take, then destruction occur later = hypothyroidism

this this rare its not gonna present in the exma
i think cuz in Hashi we might also see TSI or other kind of Ab that ultimately induce the gland to increase uptake of Iodine, this happen first, or may be the gland is compensating for certain blocking in thyroid hormone pathway >>??

I think when gland is hyperactive (phase of hashitoxicosis),its secreting lot of hormones so its taking iodine for synthesis of thyroid hormones, so increased uptake initially....!!!!!
