Question How to memorize the information?

so i had a question.. when you guys are revising theory ... how is it that you go about it?

for eg:--
1- read it once?
2- read it twice?
3- read and try to recall?
4- just recall?
etc etc...

i know its different strokes for diff folks.. but any suggestions?

what is your method? cos for me im just reading everything once... and now im feeling its a little superficial.. and only getting stored in my short term memory.. i tend to forget the minor details in a day or two..

can remember if someone prompts me.. but never by myself..

Read it once (preferably with the video)>>>>> Read the topic while doing questions (especially if you got the question wrong or the topic is not clear).
I call this "focused study" since you are focusing on your weak areas and reinforces the concept in relation to the question..
Remember, this not a test of recall but a test to apply the concept.
Works for me but look back and see whatever method worked for you in the past.

Hope this helps.

i used to memorize everything,if i don't memorize i feel insecure about what i read.so now i change the method,
i read it once, explain it to myself and recall.i m still scare about this new method.

I would add Kaplan Q Book to that plan. Very useful for solidifying concepts you got from reading Kaplan Lecture Notes.

I think one of the most important things we have to realize is that instead of memorizing, if there is ever an opportunity to understand the mechanism or pathophysiology, this should be done. I would much rather understand how medication blocks voltage-gated channels and be able to picture this in my head rather than memorize. This second scenario would then give me trouble remembering if it was calcium or sodium or potassium.

Really understand the topic if you can. Lastly, try using alternative learning methods to help if you need to just memorize something, like an association between a few diseases. or HLA and a disease. Unfortunately in medicine, there is a great amount of rote memorization. It is for this reason that I would recommend using Picmonic to help archive and use audiovisual stimulus to help memorize information.

I literally do neuro research for a job while in school and many memorization techniques involve stimulating different parts of the brain to help associate with memory. Eating chocolate while studying? chocolate might help you remember that biochem that is on the tip of your tongue? Picmonic uses this same methodology to use visuals and mnemonics to help make medicine easy.
