MTB CK and MTB step 3 combo has been proven to be the best along with Kaplan CK Lectures.
First Aid is better than MTB CK only on GI and hematology

Step up has pretty nice charts but thats about it

No problem my friend, hope you did great on your exam !

Remember, if you are gonna use the MTBs, they must be complemented with Kaplan lecture notes.

Buying first aid is also not a bad idea at all, its a nice read and has nice images.
I also have step up, its not needed really.. only the charts are cute but well, buying another book only for that for me is being silly

MTB 2 + Kaplan is the best combination

buy kaplan books
go through them in detail

after that ---
for IM -- do MTB 2
for OBGYN/PEDS--- do Kaplan books (for peds dont do the repeat stuff already covered in IM)
(other option would be doing MTB 3 for these subjects only-- but thats buying and reading one extra book after already doing kaplan notes)

for behav/Psy --- do whatever step 1 book you did.

step up does have good charts indeed.. but it has ALOT of mistakes.. plus alot of the info is just in bullet form
(in MTB it is organized as NEXT BEST STEP/ BEST INITAL TEST/ MOST ACCURATE TEST -- which makes question solving easier)
if you are doing MTB you neednt do step up... pick ur books once and the key is sticking to them and repeating them.
remember the knowledge really doesnt change.. its just what suits your reading pattern

thats a nice approach, MTB step 3 also is good for OB/gyn and Peds, complementing MTB CK.

OMG! Thank you!!! Great, great advice!
I've always been a big fan of yours since step 1! LOL!
This is going to be my study plan. (I've been reading the whole CK section of the forum for the past few days for a plan.)
I'm really grateful for your guidance, buddy.

Thank you for the well wishes! I'm still crossing my fingers. lol!

Again, thank you for your advice on MTB 2 and 3. I'll follow it. I was really lost on how to start CK (not much info on the internet regarding step 2 prep unlike in step 1) until you and mbbs2010 showed the way.

I'm happy I met you guys here again.

I looked through Step Up to Step 2 once but didn't find it very appealing. Another problem is that it is almost 5 years old and a few things have changed since then.
For example, HbA1c is now considered to be a criteria for the diagnosis/management of Diabetes but the only book that mentions that is MTB2 latest edition (page 125).

I've just started studying for CK a few days ago using First Aid and although it seems to contain most everything you need, I do find it often fails to outline the "next step", "first investigation" or "most accurate investigation" as is often asked in Qbank questions. I am only about a 1/3 of the way through the text, but I get a feeling it is not going to change its format in a hurry. Perhaps I'll check out MTB.

Kaplan Lecture Notes + MTB 2 +UW Q bank

Kaplan Videos are not a must but I would highly recommend Conrad Fisher's Videos. It all depends on your background and what score you are aiming for.

Default MTB 2 updates on Twitter

Hey guys, thought I'd let you all know.. for those with MTB 2 and want some updates by Dr. Conrad Fischer himself, check out his twitter page @SeeFisch. He is updating the 2012 guidelines, which will be in the newest edition of MTB 2 out in Jan.2013.
