Question Increasing patient compliance!

A 56-year-old man has been non-adherent with his hypertensive medication. When questioned in the course of his regular office visit, he reports that he feels fine and just gets so busy that he forgets to take his pills. "I know this is a serious condition," he says, "but it really doesn't look like it is a threat to me." According to the Health Belief model, what course of action by the physician is most likely to increase his adherence in the future?

A. Have him attend a hypertension support group
B. Ensure that he has access to a pharmacy to get his prescription filled
C. Modify his prescription from a once a day to a three times a day dosage
D. Tell him a story about another patient who, like him, was asymptomatic with hypertension but who has recently died
E. Give him a pamphlet on the dangers of hypertension and ask him to talk to you after he reads it

I think patient lacks compliance bcoz he does not know about the disease..best action is to have physician give him aome knowledge of his disease, so A/E seems to be an answer....But we r not to scare the patient, so A may be correct......whats the answer ????

Think I've seen this question somewhere before.

I would have thought E. But answer is D.

E. Give him a pamphlet on the dangers of hypertension and ask him to talk to you after he reads it.

Currently what he needs is the knowledge about his condition which he obviously lacks.

B & C are obviously wrong.

A is part of behavior modification therapy.

D will be to scare him and might be useful later once he has the knowledge about his condition and understands the consequences.
