Listening Best bet for improvement

I am scoring around 50% in kaplan qbank ,done IM (kaplan videos + LN) and other subjects kaplan LN not videos.
i have read little bit of MTB
If i keep on going i know i will end up around 60% in UW and then around 210 and 220 in main exam .

But i want know how can i improve my qbank scores and get high score in main exam ,i have started to feel the basic knowledge plays a big role in step 2ck exam and there is nothing i can do to improve.
i also felt reading LN have no role in getting questions correct in qbank coz i still get them wrong .Please help is there any way to improve.thank you so much

Hey, how do you know if you score 60 in UW you would end up with a 210 in the main exam?

Do the videos again but this time with KLNs. You will have a much better understanding of the concepts.
Also read MTB 2 (and maybe MTB 3) for the review.
I frequently refer to Wikipedia/Medscape and FA Step 1 for key mechanisms/concepts.

@novobiocin kaplan ln +videos are very vast ,after doing them i still get lot of qs wrong in qbanks ,i really dont know whats the use .i think dit is better in a way that after doing dit i feel confident in a topic .
Moreover doing kaplan ln and videos takes so much time !
really dont know wat to do to improve

You're right. Kaplan Videos are a waste of time (majority of topics), only stick to Conrad videos. The other prof's just go over the stuff that's in KLN so a huge waste of time.

I would suggest to keep doing questions, as knowledge might not be what you lack.

I never said it's going to be easy.
The reason I recommended KLNs with Videos is that you have already done them once. I was in the similar situation as you but once I did the revision my score jumped up by 10 points.
However, you don't have to do ALL the Lecture notes and videos. There is a lot of low yield stuff in Kaplan LNs & Videos which you can skip. For example, I watched the fetal monitoring video 3 times and Cervical Ca two times and skipped many in OB&GY but you must watch 20 cases by Conrad Fisher (Pure Gold), ID Nephro & Cardio. Similarly, you just need to watch only few initial Peads videos as most of the stuff is already covered in IM.
Bottomline: You only need to do about 30% of all the Kaplan stuff (HY).
If you don't want to read the KLNs then just do Kaplan Q Book.

This is what I do in a typical (now) day:
1. one block of UW
2. One block of Kaplan Q bank
3. Rapid read the topics I am lacking in as found out by doing 1 & 2.
4. If still not clear, watch the video to clear the concept.

P.S. I strongly advice you against doing DIT unless you have extra time because it adds little to what you already know except giving you false confidence.

Default UW-Real score???

Hi! Nobody answered indigo's question about how do you know that the real score will be around 210 if the average on UW is 60%. Any thoughts?

It is based on what people have reported in various forums but it could be 200 +/- 15 in the real world due to individual variations and your set of questions (Luck factor).

I am doing DIT and suprisingly my kaplan qbank score has increased to 60s ,i think i do not give attention to small facts which dit made me learn.
this exam though being of concepts ,but some understanding some tables in step up 2 step 2 made me increase my qbank score .tables in step up 2 step 2 are awesome ,very high yield.
i have gained some confidence now.

Its same step 1 correlation to uworld percentages.scoring 60% in uworld is equal to 210 +/- 10 .but its just a rough estimation .

i personally dont think theres any corelation. theres always room for improvment!
i scored a 54% avg in uw in step1. n my exam score was 233!
so dont let ur uw avg decide ur ultimate score! keep working hard! and it jus gets better!

Save It!

Hey guys,
I have my exam in 2 weeks. I've been super nervous about it this time since my prep has been very lopsided and haphazard. The last few weeks though have been thankfully regular. I just wanted some advice on how the NBMEs correlate to the actual scores and what I could do to possibly improve my score in the next 2 weeks.
UWSA 2 weeks ago was 186
NBME 4 1 week ago was 189
NBME 2 yesterday was 204
My uworld average has been 54% but its not representative I feel as I have done it subject wise. Though looking at the last 10 medicine blocks which are random untimed it would be around the same.

Now I have 2 weeks, My plan was to go over the UW questions and MTB, hopefully twice. I went over some of the NBME ques and realized I had made tons of stupid mistakes in the first 2 blocks, after which I tend to give an average performance, am trying to work on that by increasing the number of questions I do. I also need to stop missing out on questions, which I almost always do in every block!

Am planning on doing either another NBME or 8 blocks of Uworld or something back to back. (Oh, have 10% Uworld left).
Looking forward to some words of wisdom thanks!

U need to finish ur uw first. Then do all ur wrong questions again.. After that do the whole uw again if u hav time, this time maximize by doing 4-5blocks/day. In between whatever time u have , read mtb! read asmuch of it as u can. But UW is more imp. After u r done with above, take an NBME and see where u stand. Goodluck

It depends on your desired score. If you just want to pass then follow shyangel18's advice. But if you want a higher score then postpone and follow what I have posted earlier.
Remember, you have already exhausted UWSA & three NBME's to assess your performance and have only one left, so use it wisely.

Hi guys, thanks for the prompt reply and the advice!
Unfortunately, I have only 2 weeks left. And I don't think I can extend it beyond this. Ive already revised the pediatrics section and am now doing the other subjects although revising the entire medicine uworld is going to be a tough task. i had managed to put the Uworld concepts into my MTB and am really banking on one or two more reads of that helping. I managed an approximately 15 point jump in 1 week if I keep that going I hope to touch the 230 range, which is what I will be going for now.

I have NBME 3 and NBME 1 left, I plan to take one more this weekend before taking final stock of the situation. Any idea which one I should take?
Any other advice you could give on sharpening my study would be great!

In retrospect, I should have probably posted here a while ago and got some opinions on this...well, better late than never!

thanks guys!
