The evidence says that steroids can improve outcomes up to 34 weeks, but different obstetricians tend to disagree on the cutoff. This was an issue that came up during one of the PBLs during my Ob/Gyn block, and we investigated the evidence and asked for our supervisor's opinion... she said that there's no consensus, so if the gestational age is 32-34 weeks, the obstetrician will usually make a decision based on how stable the patient is.
But since it's a contentious point, the exam won't ask you to make that distinction. They'll probably give you a patient who is <32 weeks.
FWIW, UWorld also says that the cutoff is 34 weeks.
