Hello, buds! Nice to see you here. Count me in! I know I should be studying already. However, I'm finding it hard to start studying for step 2... I'm too lazy lately... LOL!

crap guys!
step 2 CK and CS cost 2165$!
+ KLN is like 500 and FA also costs money

I am gonna be so broke till the end of the month!!!

========

So my plan is to get some FA for step 2 or similar book and start explaining the stuff in there from other review books.
And plan is to hit it in early November - is that badass enough?

I wonder how much time do I have left not to miss the registration for ck and cs this year?
Any experience?
Is it cs or ck that. Is being taken up faster?
I'd think cs

Considering you have a very strong background from step 1, you have the knowledge to skip the LN.

If that is your plan then, Do MTB step 2 ck for everything, except PEDS and OB/GYN do those from MTB step 3. Plus UW and you'll be fine. That plan can be done in 2-3 months.

I'm almost half way done with UW, done with LN, MTB 2 CK and MTB 3, right now i'm doing UW and second read of MTB. Doing fine in my %, most of the material i would say, 80% it was covered in step 1, with another approach of course.

I would not recommend skipping the LN's but if so, that is the only approach i would recommend. FA is not good in CK. Look for hundreds of threads in this forums, they will back me up. Good luck

Well for CS, it takes around 3 weeks from the time you apply. And by now, you would have to check but I'm pretty sure, most of the spots for taking them early enough are gone, but again, check on that. I think there might be a delay as well, because the exam was recently changed.

For CK takes also 3 weeks, and you shouldn't have a problem getting the date you want. But there will be delays after Aug 1st. I will take it in the first weeks of Aug or middle Aug, and the results will be given by sept 26th.

If you plan to get this years match.. you are running super late. Check the dates that results are released for step 2 CS, they take a lot of time. You should apply at least with Step 1, and CK, by oct, after that, interviews go way down. Many programs are a bit flexible with step 2 CS, but .... many people apply with complete applications. So investigate more about it before rushing.

I feel the same way, especially internal medicine in MTB CK is written in such a wonderful way, it's not as boring as FA was..

Because CK sucks big time on OBS/GYN and Peds, but is da S.hit on internal medicine
MTB 3 is da S.hit on OBS/GYN and peds, thats why is better to use that.

Is like a badass combo

Get your CS date now. In order to match you have to get a date by December so your result comes out in time. Last time I checked they were almost all gone and that was a couple of months ago.

thanx Mexito.

well you can apply at places that dont ask for ecfmg certification for interviews but you will have to have all steps completed and with your score by feb latest .....

usually only AMGs do this not IMGs as very few places dont require certification ... so virtually the chances for IMGs matching without certification are very low unless you have a very strong profile so it is not adviced to apply without steps but nothing is impossible .......

Yea, You can apply for the match w/ step 1.

But unless someone has a 270 and is applying for FM, you're unlikely to get an IV.

You are required to be ECFMG "certified/verified" before rank order (Feb)

I think its the programs fault for this, when they mean "certified" they actually mean "verified" (Step 1/Ck/CS Clear) before ROL submission.

International, Active medical students wouldn't be able to participate in the match otherwise.

Hmm , i thought verification is the process where we get our med school credentials verified .......

and you get ecfmg certified only after step 1 , 2 ck and cs ....... so ecfmg certified is the correct status an applicant has to be to go for match

now days certified applicants are having a tough time leave out non certified ones have a look here ......

as long as you are in the process of taking steps and getting your license - you can apply. But if you do not have everything cleared by feb - you are screwed

guys count me in for CK in november

so far done with Kaplan lectures (conrad fischer's only) for IM and MTB 2 medicine part, did 4 blocks of Kaplan qbank got 73% mean so far..

i am confused regarding Lectures for OBGYN , many people from my med school strongly recommend them, i am gonna skip others for sure.

For Peds and OBGYN i'll use MTB3 + LN thanks for the suggestion as i was feeling that MTB2 seems too weak for everything other than Medicine.

thank you.
If you were training for the Olympic Basketball team it would be a great idea to run around the track and build up stamina but if you don't practice shooting the baskets you are missing the target. USMLE is all about how well students answer 300+ questions on test day. Stay focused on the target. Spend more time answering questions and letting that lead you to what you need to look up and study. We offer methods on how to apply critical thinking, find the distractors in questions and the keys that help you pick the right answer. Best of luck as you continue with your studies - remember questions are the best way to prepare for the exam!! With compliments, The Institute of Medical Boards. Est in 1982.
