Listening Starting with 54% on usmle world step 2 CK

I'm really scared because i have done 10 blocks of questions so far and my average score is 54%. Is it a good start or do i need to stop doing questions and study more? I just studied from master the boards. I plan to take the exam at the end of august.

Please need some advice!

Join the club...LOL

I'm doing the same thing as you...MTB and UW. Struggled initially but its gradually improved.

From my experience there's 2 things going on. Don't know the material well enough from MTB and most of the stuff in UW isn't covered in MTB.

My recommendation is keep going at it and make notes from UW when you come across something that makes you go WTF!!! You'll see gradual improvement in your average.

When you're done with UW, read over MTB again and it will ALL make sense. When doing your review, go over the text and your notes from UW as many times as possible.

Thanks Haga! i yes you're right, most of the stuff in Usmle world isn't covered in master the boards. I also think im having problems in time management since at the end i always miss 1-2 questions and because i try to read fast, im not analizing well enough the questions i guess. What do you recommend me to do?

I completed Kaplan QBank (untimed / subjectwise / study mode) in the beginning. (no kaplan notes or MTB) and then did the UW (timed / random) ..

It worked well for me. I completed UW with 76% average.

And then I did MTB just for revision. Yes MTB doesnt cover everything and definitely UW expects more than MTB.

So if you dont have time to go through KLN, I would strongly suggest kaplan Qbank in study mode.

That being said these are my 2 cents .. good luck

@Hitman I am doing kaplan qbank done with 60% and i am averaging 58 % .i recommend kaplan qbank if u got time and u dont want to read many books .i learn more while doing questions.
i would say 25% of questions are WTF and badly worded but rest 75% are really good.I am planning to do uworld after this .Good luck

Its definitely good. UW Qbank is close to real exam (I am yet to take the exam ..will be taking it in next 18 hrs .. but I can confirm it based on NBME ..

Kaplan questions are constructed differently but use it as study guide and they are helpful. As I mentioned I did not read KLN first but did my study via Kaplan QBank. Its pretty much same stuff. From my Step1 experience I learnt that reading theory is one thing and solving MCQ is different. So my whole approach has been reverse engineering from MCQs

Again this is my opinion.. Take a look at some of these polls about Qbanks-

Default Uworld!! **** u b*tch!! :(

So, is it okay to do Kaplan Qbank without reading KAPLAN BOOKS?! Uworld is already destroying my confidence.I make so many mistakes. The worst of all. I get 6-7 incorrect answers in a row while doing a block of UWORLD. Then I get 1-5 correct answers and then I make more mistakes.. So, my scores are pretty bad. I am totally relying on MTB 2 for my preparation!! At least for Medicine! :| This is my first read. Should I do KAPLAN Qbank along with UWORLD and MTB?!

UW is a very tough qbank. You have to know your stuff really well in order to do well on it.

My suggestion would be to do Kaplan QBank first. You'll learn more from doing that and then move on to UW. That's if you have the time. I didn't have the luxury so I dove head first into UW, that's all I got time for.

If I could re-structure my studying, I would read MTB a couple of times first, do Kaplan QBank, then do UW and finally do the NBMEs. You'll kill the exam with this routine.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Now I am thinking of buying Kaplan Qbank and doing it along with UWORLD. Plus I am thinking of revising UWORLD twice. I won't make the same mistake which I made in step 1 by not revising UWORLD twice.I have pirated Uworld Qbank Books. Is there difference between the questions of the online and the offline versions?
Secondly, should I go for online KAPLAN QBANK?! pirated books are pretty cheap u know!

I used the pirated UW and QBank books for step 1 and I'm using the pirated UW books for CK right now. There is absolutely no difference. Save your money and keep using the books.

What?

I think its okay to spend $99 to get the QBANK so to gauge it properly, and the pirated edition wont have the new types of questions they add.

But again, it depends on how strong you are financially.

For step 1 initially I did the pirated version. Towards the end I subscribed to UW online thinking the same thing, there would be new questions but it was EXACTLY the same.

The only difference is that the pictures are poor quality in the pirated books and there's obviously no audio (heart sounds). And you can't pick and choose the questions you want to do.

For me this was trivial. Of course it depends from person to person.

If you have the money to spare, then most definitely go with the online versions. If you don't (like me) then the pirated versions are great, you build concepts just like you would in the online version.
