Show Teeth Starting my Step 2 Prep soon

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on the Step 2 CK forum. I wrote my Step 1 about two months back and would like some information on Step 2.

I am planning on writing my Step 2 next year around June. That gives me exactly one year to study to for it. My goal is to get 250 or above since it took me two attempts for Step 1. So to improve my chances for the match I need to do really well in Step 1.

I would love to hear your advice and suggestions on how to go about preparing for the Step 2 CK. I need to know what books to order. This is what I have planned so far -

4 months - do Kaplan notes with videos and Kaplan Qbank
Then take an NBME
3-4 months - do MTB and FA along with UW
Then I'll take another NBME

After that I'll plan my schedule according to my NBME scores

Please give me some advice on my plan. I know it sounds very vague but I'll start my prep in about a month. I also have my clinical rotations going on alongside.

Thank you everyone for all your help!

Plan is good,bt u r taking pretty long time, don't do ist aid,and give step 2 till jan or feb ,so that u may catch the match,it's my experience that taking too much time doesn't improve ur score, just study aggressively and wind up in maximum 6 months , go ahead d ur plan

If your reviewing what you've already done in medical school, then your taking too long with your current schedule. If, however, you haven't done the Peds, OB/GYN, Psych, Med and Surg clerkships in medical school then go ahead with your current plan.

It really depends on how much you know beforehand.

Regarding books, I think what you plan on using is good enough. Kaplan LN + MTB + QBank is the best combo. I wouldn't confuse myself with First Aid. Stick to one comprehensive review book; either MTB or First Aid. I personally don't like First Aid for Step 2 CK.

You could use Step 2 SECRETS. It's a good read to review key concepts. It's written in question and answer format and is great for filling free time on the wards.

Hope that helps.

I just started my Rotations so I haven't done any of the ones you just named above. I don't have much clinical experience either. So I'll order the MTB asap and well I'll get the FA too coz I have the time to go over it -

Master the Boards Step 2 CK

FA for CK

Are the editions ok?

First Aid is garbage. Instead order MTB Step 2 & 3!

Congrats btw!

Thanks!

No Kaplan notes for CS. Just study FA Step 2 CS and practice.

And you'll probably find KLN CK notes on Kijiji dude.
