Smile Step 2 CK 230/81

I just got my score report an hour ago and thought of sharing my experience.

Prep time 4.5 months
Books: MTB2 and Rapid Review for Cardio and OBGYN
Qbanks: kaplan qbank and uworld
strategy:
I read MTB2 first round and then did kaplan qbank (57% and 60% complete, timed random mode)
then I read Rapid Review for Cardio and OBGYN only. Read MTB2 again and started Uworld after that.
My first round was subject wise, timed mode and I scored 60% (100% complete). I took down notes while reviewing my answers. this was the best thing I ever did
about 2 months before my exam I did NBME 2 standard mode ( not the self paced one) and i scored 202.
I took a look at my score report and figured out my weaknesses and worked on these by reading MTB2 and my notes from Uworld. Afterwards, I did Uworld again and scored 85% on average.

2 weeks before my exam I did UWSA and I scored 211. I wasn't very happy with it but I decided to take my exam anyway. That was a good choice to be honest, because I don't think that studying any more would have improved my score by that much.

The day of the exam, I felt very comfortable and at ease. I was a little bit anxious during the first block but then I managed to relax and that's when I started finishing each of my blocks with 5-7 minutes to spare which allowed me to review any questions that I had marked down.

all in all, there no reason to worry, I'm a fresh IMG who's just graduated and I only studied for 4 months. Yet, I still scored 230 which a 99 according to the old system!

Thanks for sharing your experience!
Did you do any other NBME besides NBME 2? Was your exam similar to NBME or UWSA?
How was the distribution of questions per subject? Did you have a lot of Biost./ Ethics questions?
Is it worth it doing both Qbanks- Kaplan and UW?

GL with your score! All the best!

I did NBME 4 very early in my prep and it was a disaster lol! NBME 4 in itself is the most difficult one and doing it early meant that I wasn't prepared. So I don't really count it.

Doing UW is a must since it covers most of the material tested on the exam.
As for Kaplan, I can't say it was a waste of time because I did learn a few things from it. However, it's much harder than the actual exam and focuses on very specific details while the exam tests you're basic general knowledge. It's one of those Qbanks that you do if you have time and patience.

I can't say anything about my exam for ethical reasons. However, I can tell you one thing. Don't panic! I've had my share of panicing and worrying and it wasn't worth it to be honest with you.

As for NBME vs UWSA. I think the exam was a mix of the two. Do them so you can figure out your weak points and improve your study plan. Don't use them as an absolute prediction of your actual performance.
I got 202 on NBME 2 and 211 for UWSA. Neither of them predicted my 230!
