Help Study Plan Modification

I've been studying for past 2 months or so and am really struggling to keep up now because my surgery rotation is hectic.

I initially started with KLN w/ Videos for all subjects except Psych & Biostats.

Now, I've done 18 blocks, and I've done terrible on the last two blocks (40% & 38%), while the others I have averaged 58%. (The two are bringing my overall average down).

Last block I got 38%, and freaked out and stopped UW and started reading MTB 3 for everything other than IM.

Now I've got less than 25 days till exam day. What should I do? I've got 35% UW done, and can manage to do about 3 blocks a day (10%) w/ review so that takes away 10 days, leaving 15 days.

Here is my UW Performance Profile:

Can anyone recommend anything? What should I focus more on? I feel I am weak at everything, and the last block definitely killed any confidence that I had.

I plan to take mine in just under 2 weeks.
I think the most important aspect for you right now are the questions and understanding the concepts.

I studied with UW as my main source, and supplemented weak areas with MTB CK and 3. I am not a book person, hard for me to retain but wow UW is money, learned so much.
My 1st time through UW was a 49%, I am also doing rotations and so this was over an extended few mths, in subject mode. So though I started off in the 40s, I eventually got up to the high 50s-60s.

Pre UW, I took NBME 1 and coupled with my changing answers and lack of knowledge (hadnt done my core rotations), I got a 160! In retrospect, I had no business taking it then.

After going through UW, I remember some blocks were I had 39% and 41% and felt like crap! I took notes, and found it worked best for me. I did an NBME, this time I got >230. Somehow my 1-2hrs of daily studying for a few mths had resulted in a jump of over 70 points.

I reset my UW, and have completed 46%, cumulative is 67%, some blocks I get in the 70-80s, and some I'll get 60%. My plan is to finish this 2nd complete run through with about a 70%, and then take another NBME and UWSA, hoping for a 240 there. I actually dont remember 85% of the UW questions, especially IM cause I did all that 4, 5, 6mths ago.

Long story short, since you are only going through UW 1x, I'd say spend more time learning from UW, rather than beating yourself down over your score. Also try not to over think the question, I started to do so much better, when I'd narrow it down clinically and go with what made sense. So when I read the question, I imagine it to be a clinical scenario in the hospital that I am in, or compare it to a previous real life situation.

Just my opinion, I havent taken the exam, but hope this helps.

yes its very important to finish uw and revise it ..... its better than any other book ..... dont look at your UW percentage it means nothing , it does not predict your score ..... learn from each qs I would say make notes into mtb 2 ..as i search for an ans in mtb i find that the point was given in mtb which i have read but failed to ans the uw qs becoz i could not recognize it or did not remember it .........

First and foremost thing .COMPLETE UW ........ I am a slow reader but i guess 3 block per day appears very quick to me ...... take your time make small notes in the book ...... read them again .... so make them in mtb so as you read mtb you revise uw again .....

Dont stop uw and read books it will NEVER help as you will never learn how a qs will be asked and what should i notice in it , wheres the catch ... such things can never be learned from a book , even if you read the whole mtb again you will just waste time and realise you didnt increase your uw percentage significantly .

goodluck ......

The IM section in MTB 2CK is also really good. It's quite interactive, and I thought it was better than the corresponding section in MTB 3, especially if you're "not a book person."

Remember, IM is the majority of the test. So if you're only doing the non-IM sections in the book, you can expect it to not have as big of an impact on your UW scores.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice. I've decided to take a day off and just forget about studying and then start fresh with UW tomorrow.

The 2 outlier blocks definitely killed my confidence so am just looking to slowly build everything back up.
