Blood Blood Transfusion Screening!

A 54-year-old man presents to his physician for a consultation. The patient is concerned that he may have gotten some "disease" from blood. He has read in the newspapers and seen on TV that people who get blood transfusions can get "diseases," and he received a transfusion in 1982. The patient has been a patient in this office for a few years, and his only other past medical history is hypercholesterolemia and hypertension, for which he is being treated with pravastatin and hydrochlorothiazide. Which of the following is the most appropriate screening test?

A. Hepatitis B
B. Hepatitis C
C. HIV
D. PPD skin testing
E. Rapid plasma reagin testing

Of the options which were not a part of routine screening in 1982 were HIV and HCV.
It has been more than 30 years since the transfusion. Only a handful cases have been reported were HIV has been asymptomatic for such long. On the other hand HCV remains asymptomatic for a longer duration.
So I think the Patient should be screened for HCV or hepatitis B (option b)

Better option is Hep C. As screening for this is was not available ealier and used to be MC transfusion transmitted disease
