Default Erythromycin -safe or unsafe in pregnancy ?

Here in UW, Q.Id:3660 , There is written chlamydial infection during pregnancy is treated with erythromycin (drug of choice)......

I want to know whether erythromycin is safe or unsafe to use in pregnancy ?????? as it can cause acute cholestatic hepatitis in pregnant pt.

It is considered safe in pregnancy.

They tried that in 1960's and 1970's but the failure rate was unacceptably high.

Erythromycin failure in the treatment of syphilis in a pregnant woman

I don't think it's safe, it is CONSTANTLY mentioned all over the UW as a drug that causes ac. cholestatic hepatitis in "pregnant Women"
If Nov is right...Wonder why they've never mentioned the failure rate bit and always foccussed on the adverse effect

Erythromycin and Clarithromycin are contraindicated during pregnancy
Azithromycin 1 gm orally in a single dose is safe and effective
Although lower dose of Erythromycin can use as alternative regimens if gastrointestinal tolerance is a concern.

Erythromycin Estiolate is contraindicated( Causes cholestasis) but Erythromycin as base is safe in pregnancy..

azythromycine is safe for pregnancy but erythromycin is contraindicated due to dev of cholestatic hepatities(REF UW QS ID-3707-choice E)
