Smile 261(87) in Step 2 CK: Preparation and tips

Hello to everyone!

Just wanted to share my exam preparation & experience for Step 2 CK:

Score in Step 1 :248

Time to prepare: 4 months (Actually I was busy with internship for the 1st month, so actually 3 months)

Books/Material:
1. Kaplan CK notes (read them twice. Had added explanations from Uworld and Kaplan CK Qbank to the notes. That helped a lot!)
2. MTB-Step 2 CK by Conrad Fischer-Read it once. except maybe Obs/Gyn. Medicine chapters are very good!
3. Uworld Q bank (took 3 months subscription): Very helpful! Solved once, random, timed. Revised questions once again
4. Kaplan CK Qbank (took full one year subscription): Long questions. Harder than Uworld. Did it once! Revised most blocks once more.
5. Solved all the four NBMEs
6. Solved UWSA and both full-length kaplan self-assessment exams.

Test scores:
1. Uworld Q bank % (random,1st time,timed) : 74%
2. Kaplan Q bank (subject-wise, 1st time, timed): 65%
3. NBME form 2 (3 months before): 216
4. Kaplan diagnostic exam: 66%
5. Kaplan Simulation Test 1: 73%
6. NBME form 1 (1 month before): 239
7. Kaplan Simulation Test 2: 78%
8. NBME form 3 (15 days before): 228 (freaked out!)
9. NBME form 4 (7 days before): 258
10. UWSA (3 days before): 254
11. Free 150 (1 day before): 89%

Final score: 261/87!!.

Was very happy!!

All the best to everyone!

also want to mention that the actual exam was very hard! Did not feel good at all after the exam. So, don't worry just trust your practice exam scores.

in the last week, probably the best thing u can do is flip through Uworld blocks.all questions.even the correct ones. Finish one block in 30mins to one hour maybe. worked for me!!

Was Kaplan QBank very useful? Was your exam similar to any NBME or UWSA? How lengthy the questions were? How did you maange your time during your exam?

kaplan Q bank the latest one from their website.. dunno if there are others. My friends managed to score in the 260s even without it, but if you have time do it. More practice! Longer and tougher qs!

But uworld q bank is a MUST!!

The actual exam was tough as I said. The questions were long, so learn to to read question stems quickly. It was not similar to any self-assessment exam that I gave. Kap Q bank has long questions and may train you for it. I was hard pressed for time in the final exam. Finished most blocks 5 mins before. Felt I did not have sufficient time for reviewing marked questions.

Guys u don't have to solve everything that I mentioned. Just make sure u give self-assessment exams periodically to see where u r going and plan accordingly....

in NBME form 4, i got abt 18 wrong i think total.

in UWSA, i scored mainly in mid-80s (%) in 1st 3 blocks, however in the last block, I don't know what happened I scored in something like 69%. Dont remember actual numbers sorry.

Congrats for you. I just want an advice please: I am a recent graduate with step 2 CS. Which is most appropriate to start with, CK or step 1? I will have an obligatory governmental service year where clinical rotations (IM, Surgery...etc) would be repeated again but without exams and no on call, i.e very cushy. Logically, to start with CK because of clinical rotations. But sometimes logic does not work. What is your advice?
