Unhappy Failed Step 2 CK :'(

Hello.
Yesterday I got my results... and I failed step 2CK. This is so embarrassing. I've never failed a test in my life and after such a low score on Step 1 I feel hopeless. I feel like I am just wasting my family's money.

To be honest, I have tried to understand where I went wrong. I made sure I didn't make the mistakes I did on Step 1. I even stopped working, I focused 102% on this exam. I isolated myself from friends and family, I rested, read different books, yet I got a terrible score.

I don't understand why do people recommend UW... I feel robbed, and I don't know if I even should say that, but UW was pretty easy... you knew what they were talking about in almost every question... I was getting scores between 50-55% in the beginning and 70-80% in the last weeks. In the other hand, the UWSA was even more difficult than Qbank.

Unlike Step 1, I really don't know what should I do different (other than UW)... because what I thought were my mistakes in step 1 where completely avoided. I had marked >50%of the questions on every block... I feel frustrated and I don't know what to do.

I already bought my token for 2013 match and now I don't know what should I do. I know I should re-take CK, but I don't feel like I have the energy nor the hopes to do this. All this sacrifices over nothing?

I don't know what to do... I'm a GC holder, grad 2010, step 1: 196, no USCE... I feel I'm screwed

It happens. Some people unexpectedly get tough exam. I can totally understand what you are going through and I feel so sad for u . Trust me you Can get the residencey. I dont know about the match token etc. But If i were you, i would take my time and try to score more than 260 in CK.Then clear my Step 3 next year with good scores. In the mean time, you can try volunteering in research in USA. Volunteer as a Doctor and work somewhere. Get a USCE of 6 months at least before applying for the next year match.

@Family money- When by God's blessing you will get your residency, you will pay them back all the money with your first pay. Families are there to support us.

@Failure and embarrassment-Obviously its embarrassing. But Don't care about what people think. You worked hard. You tried your best. You were just Unlucky. Your failure is not your Fault. But you have to work HARDER and Intelligently.

@US Residency- whether to do it or not- It depends on you. If you are crazy enough and you are willing to sacrifice few more years for it, you can get it. If you don't feel like doing it, there is always Australia and other countries. You can also take Australian boards after Step 2 Ck. The course is very similar.

YOU HAVE A LOT OF OPTIONS. TIME DOES NOT REMAIN THE SAME. YOU CAN DO ANYTHING. You are a DOCTOR. You would never die of Hunger until you have a steth, pen and a paper in your hands.

Sorry to hear about your results.
However, you have to look forward and try to forget the past (easier said than done).

I would strongly suggest a dedicated study partner for your studies to keep you focussed.
You need to discuss the questions and the choices on a particular topic.
Remember, reading and knowing is not enough for this test it's the application of the concepts which are being tested...and nothing clears a concept like a good discussion.

So sorry to hear about your score. I have been working with medical students to prepare them for board exams for many, many years and I know how hard everyone works in preparation for this exam. We can proudly say that we have 100% pass rate on the students we help for step 2 CK. Our skills lie in assessing what the student is doing when they are reading and processing the information in the questions and how they go about answering the questions. Once we have pinned down your unique style of learning and note how you apply your knowledge to the questions, we offer you ways on how to approach the questions to increase your scores. If you would like more information please feel free to look us up on the web. Don't lose sight of your dream to become a physician. You can do it!! Wishing you all the best as you continue with your career. With compliments, The Institute of Medical Boards.

i know it s rough. dont give up. take a few weeks off then develop a new game plan. i think it'd be good to have a dedicated study partner as mentioned above, plus the use of the DIT failed plan.

I'm really sorry to hear that and I feel your frustration...but this doesn't have to be the end! You HAVE the potential. The best students get the hardest tests. When GOD has something for you to do He's gonna test you to make sure you're ready.
If this is really your dream you've got to be willing to live through the difficulty.
Sending you lots of love!

Default Never let them get you down

One day you will look back and see how the failure made you stronger or how it slowed you down so you would end up in the right place or the right residency.
Failing a test is no mark of how smart you are or are not. It simply says that you were not at your best during that particular time. Perhaps you were too nervous. What ever it might be, stay strong.

I am from Future-doc.net and we have step 2CS courses that are very personalized. Let me know what you are looking for.

In any event you have just been postponed for a while. After all is over, you will be a wonderful doctor. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Wishing you the best in all your endeavors.
Dr. J

bossanova,

Sorry to hear that you did not pass Step 2 CK. Do not be too hard on yourself, as these things do happen - many others have been where you are now, and yet rebounded to become successful doctors.

As you assess your options, please consider one-on-one tutoring - many people are unaware of this option. Our business connects you with a tutor, who will customize a plan for you and help you improve exactly where it's needed. You can connect with the tutor online, and get someone who will understand you, watch over you, and give you the confidence you'll need to achieve a passing score the next time!

If you are interested, please visit Select Med Tutors to learn more, or email us at info@selectmedtutors.com. It will be okay!!
