does anyone know why mechanical ventilation for 48hours can lead to stress ulcers?

Not sure how long it takes for endotracheal intubation to induce the ulcers. But what is clear is that you give stress ulcer prophylaxis:
Head trauma
Burns
Endotracheal intubation
Coagulopathy- Plt below 50,000 or INR over 1.5 with respiratory failure

its due to high stress in severe illness (stress ulcers), Burns (curling ulcers) but not due to just mechenical ventilations.

Question Stress Ulcers - Mechanical Ventilation

what i mean is, what is the mechanism behind stress ulcers and mechanical ventilation...?

correct me if i'm wrong but
the theory behind cushings ulcer is you have an increase in vagal stimulation.
the theory behind curlings ulcer is you have a lose of plasma volume and a decrease in intravascular volume so you have necrosing and sloughing of the gi lining.
