USMLE Scores low scores step 1 and 2

Hi, everybody
My story looks like this.Old IMg(1999), Step 1 is 201 (second attempt), Step 2 is 209(first attempt).I was working full time during prep and still do.Ive got 1 publication, but will do more definitely.I work for a hospital for 3,5 years now and was promised exellent LORs. I dont give up!
What do you think my chances are?Id like to hear that from people with similar situations, but any suggestions will be appreciated

No one responded so I am responding but I think I am very premature to say anything.
But as I read from other post.
Firstly I would like to know which speciality u are trying for.
I don't like to say this but with low scores and old graduate it's really a hard thing. I think u can get family medicine in community based programs that also with atleast 6-12 months of USCE.
Ya I know there are other experienced people out there but I would recommend that only USCE can increase your matching chances.
Hope I answered appropriately. Best of luck for future.

Sorry i meant arrogance on part of US not you .

if u work in US then it is USCE no problem ,try to get as many LORS from different departments and if u have a mentor (or someone reputed in the hospital) try to get LOR waived as it has more value .
You have enough USCE ,you are good.
also spend time to write personel statement and try to get help from experienced people in your work place to help u with it .Try to get reason why u failed first attempt of step 1 ,as it will be asked in IV.

I know less about step 3 and how it affects ones chances.

but why dint u try matching earlier.every year it is getting harder .if u tried 3 years ago u might have matched right away .

As I was suggested, if u give cs till december u can get a match 2013, otherwise u'll get in 2014, (but still there r very very less chance for 2013 if u give in jan).moreover, till dec 31st no seats available. if u have registered for time b4 31st dec, go ahead. give a try, ur USCE definitely worth....gud luck

CS scores take a while to come out

after aug 25 till sometime in Sep/Oct, those scores wont come out till Nov

Taking Oct, scores wont be out till Dec

Taking Dec, scores may not be out till Feb/March.

Thats pushing it. The only reason why a prog will rank you and not someone with a passing CS is because of connections. They dont want to run the chance of ranking someone, only for them to fail CS, and for them to now have to find someone to take up that spot.
I'd say set up a reminder for dates and take CS at the end of Sep, you have more than a mth, you can study for it.

Default Don't give up

Dear dr.
You should be proud of your accomplishment so far... Being an old graduate with full time work ! That's considered awesome scores even though one of the step was from 2nd attempt ... With a very good personal statements , good cause for second attempt , a lot of LOR from ur hospital with your past work even if it was outside US don't underestimate anything u did before cause u r a doctor since 1999 ....chances will be in your way as long as u know where to apply ( not competitive specialities) you will do it believe me.
My advice u r running out of time , prepare your self very good for cs , apply for cs soon so u can get early jan or feb then prepare for step 3 and take it then apply for match in September 2013 .... Definitly with this u will get the match.
Good luck.
