Default Sickle cell anemia

a primi with sickle cell disease is diagnosed with pyelonephritis.apart fom antibiotics wat do we give?
Hb..7.9
Mcv..90

Is it epo/iron/folate/b12

its folic acid. because sickle cell is chronic hemolytic condition

why not iron then..?even iron is required?is it because iron is recycled?

yup its folic acid because, theres increased reticulocytosis in SCD so cells runs out of Folate. and then again pregenancy itself is an indication for FolicAcid supplementation. and Iron def has a diff list of causes, mainly GI blood loss becausee u run out of Iron recycling. rember from step1 the whole recyling crap!

Default Folate

She should be on folate anyway.
Then, look at MCV and RDW, if MCV high (folate def), if low or normal, add iron as it could be mixed and by definition Hb under 10 is anemia in pregnancy, then give both. but if you have to give one answer: FOLATE!
