Warning! Not Enough Time

I took the test yesterday, it was kind of hard. I don't think they give you enough time to finish the blocks. I was definitely pressed for time on maybe 7 out of the 9 blocks. The first block was the worst because I did not expect the speed at which you had to read so I ended up not answering a question at the end. I think if they provided you with more time, by either shortening the stems or giving you less questions, the test would've been easier. It would give you more time to think about the answers. I guess they think you either know it or you don't, and they don't want you at the test figuring out the answers. So my advice to everyone who's going to take it, practice questions TIMED. And try to get all the information from the stem by reading it once. You won't have time to go back and re-read the stems at the end of the question. I didn't practice questions timed, and I may have gotten screwed.

How was it in comparison to the diagnostics?
The length of the Usmle world diagnostic wasn't similar? I thought the NBME question stems were too short.

Yeah....no one told me that was the problem with CK...if I had known time was an issue, I would've been practicing the blocks timed. Not take my sweet time. There is no sweet time on CK

I didn't do the diagnostic, only Uworld. And I felt like some of the questions on CK were obscure compared to the questions on Uworld. But the abstracts/drug ads on CK are way easier than the abstracts on UWorld. And don't forget your biostats. They test that too on CK.

The CK stems are longer. some are short, but you have a lot of long ones, and those waste time. I think Uworld is easier than CK. If you read MTB you can answer any of the Uworld questions. But I think in CK you didn't always know what they were asking for...maybe because you're working against the clock and you have to read quick and try to pick what's important, what's not.

What type of Biostats questions can we expect? Anything out of the ordinary?

Had the same experience on my CK yesterday. It felt a bit harder than UWorld and was definitely harder than the UWorld self assessment test. Time is the factor I think.

Timing is absolutely crucial on the exam. Sadly we have seen many incredibly smart students lose unnecessary points on the exam because they did not get their timing down before the exam. We will teach you techniques on how to master this before your exam. I hope your results will be great despite your experience in the exam. All the best to you as you continue with your medical career. With compliments, The Institute of Medical Boards
