Planning Step 2 CK/CS Preparations

Hi everyone,

I am finally back on the website after a long time. I had been busy with my rotations for the past 2 months as I started them after my Step 1. I am starting to study for Step 2 CK/CS soon. Still need to make a proper plan and get a list of resources down. I plan on writing my Step 2 CK early next year - Feb/Mar/Apr. Is there anyone else starting their prep right now and aiming for the same period?

Here are the books I am using for-

Step 2 CK -
  • MTB Step 2 CK by Conrad Fisher
  • Kaplan Qbook for Step 2 CK

Those are the only two books I have right now. I am planning on watching the Kaplan Videos. I have some questions -

1) Do you recommend watching all the Kaplan videos or only for some subjects? And if so, which subjects?
2) Any other books/resources I should add ?
3) What Qbank(s) should I get ?

Step 2 CS -
  • First Aid for CS

That's all I have for Step 2 CS. Are there any videos/links that I can watch for Step 2 CS? I know I should post this in the other forum but I thought I'd post everything together

I would greatly appreciate all your answers and suggestions as I start my Journey towards Step 2 now!! Thank you

Hey H2P.. good to see you again..

I am starting my prep soon but i plan to sit for the exam by the end of the yr or jan i'A.

Many of the those who took the test before us say the videos of step 2 are useless. They recommend the videos only for IM.

Thanks guys. We should start the CK Prep asap!!

Great job AJ23! Congrats on passing the Step 1. We are in the same boat buddy with almost the same scores as well!

Lets start reading MTB asap. We need to come up with a good plan. I was reading one of the threads posted by Renaissance and his plan sounds good! I still have to get my hands on the Kaplan Videos but I will start reading MTB within this week. I am currently doing my rotations and have been busy with them for a while. I will try to do as much as I can while doing my rotations.

Good luck everyone!! Please share your plan and lets get started for Step 2. Time to kick its a$$ !!

Hi hope2pass.. good to see you here. I have also been promoted to the CK forum

Btw when are you taking the CS exam?

I am also planning to start CK prep soon(have been saying that for weeks now) .. but i hope to take the exam a little earlier than you. Anyhow, like everyone else is saying, i also hear that KLN videos arent very helpful. But i heard if you have time then you may watch IM and OB/GYN .. rest is useless.. is what I hear.

Im also planning to use the same books as everybody else. KLN and then MTB2 .... initially i was thinking of MTB3 too but i've dropped the idea now. haha

Good Luck everybody!! Keep posting

hi H2p...
even i have been busy with rotations as well.

ya i didi read reniassance plan as well, it did sound good...
but i feel just plaininly using Kap video is bad idea, coz most of the people have said video are good only for IM and OB_GYN
rest videos are junk!

so am currently doing KLN and then doing video along with mtb 2
so that when they explain anytin in the video i can have an idea on what is he talking about and if i feel that time its important , then will write it down on my mtb book.

Btw just thought I would mention this here.

I talked to a friend of mine today who recently took step 2 CK and got 247.
He did (FA & UW), only!

He said that after doing step 1, all you need is a combination of a review book (MTB or FA) and UW. Going over them multiple times.

When I asked him about KLN's or videos he said absolutely not!

Like I said, it's his personal opinion and everyone has his own way, but I thought I should mention it just to add a perspective.

Hi Hope2Pass

I have started my CK preparation recently, but there have been a change in my study plan + i have just started my internship

I'm using:
1. kaplan lecture notes 2011 & i'm not going to do the videos
2. Kaplan Q book
3. MTB 2
And im going to borrow MTB3 from a friend but im not sure about using it but im going to have a look at it after finishing the Kaplan LNS & MTB2
4. I'm going to do UW at last

I am planning to start with OBGYN, then IM, then Paeds, then surgery, then ethics, epidemiology & psychiatry

I need to finish my Kaplan LNS & MTB2 by the end of December, then start the UW

I am not sure about when to give the exam, but thinking about May - June- July

Good luck everyone

Hey guys, that sounds good. I think I'm going to start with some simple chapters from the MTB like Ethics and Preventive medicine. I have a lot on my plate right now especially because I have to do a lot of studying for my Rotation right now! Its almost like they give us homework lol Everyones plan sounds good though. Just make sure you stick to it! I'm going to try to stick to mine as much as possible. I will start reading MTB tomorrow

The books on your list sound like a good approach as you start your journey to approach Step 2. Keep your main focus on the questions and let those guide you to where your gaps are and what you should be focusing on. After all the exam is testing how well you can answer 300+ questions on test day. We teach a method on how to apply critical thinking when answering multiple choice questions. For us, knowing what to look for in the questions that help you pick the right answer is really important. Best of luck to you as you continue with you studies. Feel free to email us for more information if needed. With compliments, The Institute of Medical Boards.

Hi everyone,

How's the studying coming along?

I have yet to start studying for step 2 ck. I have set a date from which I want to start. I have gathered all the materials needed - videos/books/qbanks/etc. I am making a study plan/routine this weekend and hope to begin studying the week after next (expected date of starting - Tuesday, Sept 25th). You will definitely see a lot more of me on the website once I gear myself into the nerd-mode lol I am looking forward to sharing a successful experience for step 2 ck with you guys If you are starting along that time, let me know! It'll be good to have a study partner

Wish you all best of luck!!

U know, I am reading MTB2 and KLN
but I found KLN mostly useless, except for some topics that I covered so far.
I thought that rheumatology was worth going through in KLN and adding back to MTB.

Again, using MTB as FA in step 1 according to Taus method.
Step 2 to me looks like expanded version of Step 1

Good luck mayn!
