Arrow Shyangel18 CK Exam Experience

Hi guys,
so i took my exam, few days ago. for all my friends who have been inbox msging me, sorry for not responding. heres how it went!

Studying Sources:
Kaplan LN- a definitely MUST for Paeds! OBsGYn, there are a few imp topiks missing in MTB3, so u might wana read those from Kaplan. rest MTB3 is more than enough. IM Kaplan- i did go thru it again a few weeks before my exam, couple of stuf fehre n there u need to kno for sure. Kaplan Surgery and Psychiatry- NOT NEEDED! esp if u r done with step1. UW is more than enough for these.
MTB2-IM. know it cold! its like the backbone of ck
MTB3- for obsgyn. u can do paeds last minute revision from here. but still Kaplan is mandatory!

UW:
did it 2times. the whole thing. first time random timed blocks. cumulative was 65%.
Assessment Exams:
NBME4-223 (3 weeks before exm)
UWSA-242 ( 5days before exam)
Free150-avg of 86%( did individual blocks-91.80.86%respectively)-day before exam

The Exam:

My blocks were:
6x 45 Q's. yes 6 of them!
1x 44 Q's
1x 36 Q's

the exam, honestly was Tough! i wasnt really expecting it to be that way. questions were not straightforward like in step1.I was more calm when i gave my step1 exam. the difficulty level was more or less like UW. like when u do random timed blocks first time, 50% of stuff u kno. 30% u have an idea but not so sure, so u use ur luck at em. and then final 20% where u r like WATTTT the Fish?!! the qz u had to read them throly, cuz there were tricks n traps in eachone of them,to the point that if bychance there was a v straightfwd question, i had a hard time chosing the answer, simply wondering how can they ask such a simple question!
and my centre was pretty crappy! half my breaktime was spent cheking in n chekout. i went thru an airport tight security system. n the lady took forever each time. and even then, i was jus running in between my test area and locker and the loo! by the time i reached the 7th block, my nerves gave up. my brain refused to think properly. i was having a hard time rember the sensitivty specificity 2x2 table!! so u can imagine! i made MAJOR silly mistakes in my last two blocks! and those questions keep haunting. like how could i even get that wrong!!!
anywho all in all, make sure u properly space out ur breaks. get some good rest before each block. hopefully ur testing centre wont suck as much. know ur UW cold. and expect nothing lesser in the exam!

Question Length:

Questions stems are not that long. it was a mix bag. what took more time was the options! or may be the tricks in the question! n the fact that u had to think twice before cheking! n i did overthink a couple of instances. esp in the end. refrain!
Marked Q's:
marked like 4-5 qz in each block

Im expecting my result on 26th sept! and frankly speaking, the exam wasnt the best i could do. i knew more, n i could hav done better. esp the last blocks. or mayb its jsut that u rember the wrong qz only once ur outta the exam. anywho, nothing can be done now. hoping for the best!

Goodluck to all those whoare appearing! b v well prepared for the beast!

I confirm what shyangel18 said about the exam

I took the exam few days ago and it was pretty TOUGH, and in my opinion even harder than step 1
for sure, they changed the pool or something and the questions were very long .. I made silly mistakes at the end of the blocks like for 5 questions because I was out of time, I didn't even see 3 questions
Only the drug ad was simple only one page that you can answer with ease
I relied on UW and MTB2 and Kaplan LN in my study but let me tell u this, the exam was different that's what I saw. like 50 % of questions am not sure about the answer . for e.g :
tubal ligation what is the most common complication in the future :
Regret
Ectopic pregnancy

Am not sure even if am allowed to do this .. but just to tell you an example about how tricky the questions were .
there were few direct questions but only few .
I got only 32 questions in the last block !! that was so stupid because i got 20 minutes left
but the other blocks were 44 (with the drug ad)! and 45s
So the exam was basically a challenge with time

Wish you good luck guys

Thanks for your post(s).

Based on recent experiences, it appears that the only aim for the NBME is to stop people from scoring higher rather than testing their knowledge. So, no point in reading/preparing for this exam since many of the questions can only be answered by a toss of coin. Sad and unfair on their part !

I agree with shy angels experience. @ novobiocin, if you haven't taken exam yet, get out of that mindset, the exam is getting tougher but everything is there in the popular study materials everyone is using. I think the only thing which was different was the way of asking, they have made it tougher and also, time management, we can work on both by practicing more questions.

and the answer to that question is regret, which is found in up to 5% of patients, whereas ectopic pregnancy is found in less than 1%

Well that wasnt my point here. U still have to stdy evrything in out. Questions were not out of this world. Syllabus is same. But the questions r put fwd in a tricky way. I had heard all my seniors n freidns who hav taken ck earlier on,that its easier than step1. But it wasnt so in mycase. They r definitely raising the bar. Cuz competitionz increasing.

@shyangel18 Good luck for the result and thanks for sharing your experience

I have a question

Did you have the Drugs ads questions and Abstract questions in the block of 36 questions? or were they randomly distrubted in other blocks ?

my total study duration was 5 months. but i studied more like 4months. cuz i had observership and stuff going on in between
I read Mtb about 5 times. Kaplan like 3 times. ( jus incase Im a very fast reader. so i personally think its the quality of reading which matters more than quantity)
For paeds mtb3 is not suffiecient. u need to listen to the Kaplan Videos for paeds .mark down wats imp from what ever Pino says. Then do those topiks from Kaplan over n over again till u r v thorough.
