Info Exam experience- step 2 CK, sept 4th

Took CK on Sept 4th....had limited time for preparation due to unavoidable circumstances.

Study period- 2 months and 1 week

Materials used- USMLE world, MTB2, MTB3(pediatrics and obgyn), kaplan videos for Cardio, pulmno, peditrics(selected topics), obgyn (almost all, twice), and few here and there topics that I got wrong in UW, Dr fishers 20 cases...lots of Wikepedia, NO KAPLAN notes or q bank at all.

UW- 2 months subscription...extended one week in the end... all timed, random first time 65% overall correct (1 month 10 days)....i re-did almost 60% of all the blocks second time and made subject wise blocks of mistakes until I have no mistakes at all or less than 10. last few days I went through all the marked ones

NBME 4 - 1 week before, 216 ( I left out 2 questions each in first 2 blocks thinking the blocks had 44 qs like USMLEworld!! stupid mistake)

NBME 2 (offline)- 4 days before, had 35 mistakes...not sure how much that means

UWSA- 2 days before 244

Exam was pretty lenghty and tests more of your mental stamina rather than the knowledge per se....most of the questions are extensions of STEP1 knowledge. I had 5 blocks of 45, 3 blocks of 44 and last block of 36.
Most of the questions were internal medicine (60%) followed by pediatrics (20%) and remaining equally distributed. I thought i got a lot of pediatric qs compared to NBME or UWSA.

Drug ads and abstract were pretty simple and straight forward...my suggestion is not to get intimidated by them.....DO NOT READ THE WHOLE ad or abstract...read the questions and then look for the answers...thats how I did practicing UW and got them all correct....there is no time to understand the ad.....just get the answer and move forward...this may not apply to all, but worked for me

I had to rush through at least 4 blocks due to time constraints...last 4 questions of those block I did it in less than 4 minutes...luckily they were not so hard...

Breaks- Managing breaks is one of the most important aspect of this exam...I took breaks after each block for first 3 blocks....then did 2 blocks straight followed by lunch (15 min). Post lunch I took another quick break after 6th block to get some REd bull as I was getting a little cloudy and the 6th block was a hell....after 7th block I had 13 minutes break time left...i hit the 'take a break button' and relaxed on the chair without going out...closed my eyes..to give them some rest. Last block of 36 had all the lengthy questions...be careful about the small block...either they will have long long questions or the drug ads if you had not got them so far..... especially when you are exhausted and want the torture to end .....even though you have 60 minutes break time, it is actually only 45-50 minutes as lot of time is wasted in finger-printing and security checks each time you take a break....it gets frustrating in the end...

Post-exam analysis revealed I had done some silly mistakes at least 7-10 that I can remember, unlike step 1, even if you remember the question, its diffcult to recall exactly what they had asked...

Overall the exam is very much doable...the qualities needed are quick critical thinking and wise time management ...and of course knowledge. UWorld has every concept that is examined in the test and MTB 2 in invaluable.

hope it helps and good luck to you all...

Thank you for posting your experience. I have a question.. Do you think MTB2 and MTB3 with UW are sufficient if you have recently clesred step 1? I want to skip all of KLN if thats possible becasue i have become KLN-phoebic now for some sytange reason Whats your opinion?

Good Luck for the score. Party hard now!!

There is a big discrepency between
ur NBME 4 and UWSA score. Is there a particular reason for that like didnt revise enough when doing The nbme4 or something?

Its very difficult for me answer that question as I have not even opened the KLN.....As I had limited time to take the exam, I just did what most of the people in this forum and others had suggested. i am also contend with the NBME and uWsa results and that is the only way I cud have assesed my prep for the exam......My suggestion is read anything you can if you have time....if not just do USMLEworld, MTBs and self assesments....good luck

I am not sure why it happened....only thing I can say is that I was pretty stressed while taking NBME and also left out few qs unanswered in NBME which when I checked later could have answered all correct....I was pretty relaxed while taking UWSA, even though I felt UWSA harder!
