Hi all:

for adolescents who have abnormal PAP smear, should we proceed to colposcopy followed by biopsy or we follow them up in 12 mo??

Thank you!

According to UW QID:2631

LSIL in a Pre-menopausal women >>>>> Colposcopy >>Biopsy

Post-menopausal women, 3 options:
1. Colposcopy
2. HPV testing
3. Repeat Pap at 6 and 12 months

The reason HPV testing is not recommended in pre-menopausal women is because it does not decrease the referral for colposcopy being more likely to be positive than in post-menopausal women.
